A Fabulous blog decision

posted by Babs on Monday, 5 January 2009

What to do? …. What to do?

I’ve been getting a bit concerned about posting every time I receive an award.  It wouldn’t be so bad if I posted daily like a lot do, but as I only post every few days, it seems wrong to make one of them about me receiving awards.   If I was one of my readers, I think I would get a bit bored with feeling obliged to say ‘Congratulations’ every time.

Please don’t think I don’t appreciate the awards, because I certainly do – every one of them, but I’m sure you understand my dilemma.

So……well…..I’ve made a decision.

I will put them on my ‘Awards’ page with a thank you.  I will visit the blog of the person who passed it to me, and leave a thank you in a comment, but I will no longer write a post about them.  However,  There may be the odd exception to the rule, like this one.  This award is fun and you get to know a little bit more about the people you pass it on to.

I was given this ‘Your blog is fabulous’ award by  Awake in Rochester, Jaffer and Drowsey Monkey

Thank you Awake, Jaffer & Drowsey

The instructions are simple, list 5 of your addictions and pass the award to 5 other Fabulous bloggers.

My addictions:

I am addicted to Macaroni cheese.  Well, most food that involves cheese.

I am addicted to blogging, and all that goes with it.

I am addicted to my Mac.

I am addicted to late nights, or rather early mornings.

I am addicted to Nicorette – don’t ask.

I will pass it on to:

Sandee @ Comedy Plus – Laura @ Can You Be A Part Of My Life – Jay @ The Depp Effect – Maureen @ I’d Rather Be Blogging and Lady Banana

Congrats, Babs! This one really is fun. I have a similar dilema as school starts today and I will not have a time to post every day.
    Have a wonderful week :o )

There is a cure for Mac addiction…just say No! and get a PC. :0) Congrats on the award, Babs, it is well deserved.

And I like the approach you’re adopting for awards. I have faced the same dilemma in the past and the result was letting some awards and recognitions fall through the cracks because I didn’t know how to deal with them. I think I’m going to be a copycat and adopt your strategy. Thanks.

Why thank you my dear. I like your take on awards. Sometimes you get hit with a ton at the same time.

I love cheese too. Mac and cheese and especially Cheetos. Cheese is good.

I see you quit smoking too. It’s been some years for me. Best thing I ever did. I feel sooooo much better.

    Have a terrific day. :)

    Jaffer: I hadn’t noticed that! You’re right :)

Meleah: I think I like the flexibility of posting if I have time, and not if I am busy ;)

Lady Banana: Haha! I might have known you already did this :)

Ivanhoe: I envy some people’s ability to post daily – some even two post in a day! :)

Tarheel Rambler (Lee) I got a PC once and gave it away :O) I also have let awards slip away with no recognition. This seems to be an answer to that problem.

Sandee: Cheese in mashed potatoes is glorious! I quit smoking about twenty years ago and still chew Nicorette! How bad is that? Still I haven’t smoked and feel a million times better for it :)

I have never known how to handle awards. I feel terrible not posting about them. Your idea is brilliant!

You know, Dave and I often say “Is Babs up?” We always do the hour calculation to figure out what time it is in your neck of the woods compared to us. We still cannot believe how much of a night owl you are. Do you ever sleep???

Maureen: You are welcome, and I love your blog!

Kathy: I think the page for awards is a good way, if you can’t post about them. Yes I do sleep, honest – I have about 6 hours most nights!

I created an awards page, too, tho I miss having my Glass Poo award in my sidebar. Maybe I’ll move that back.

If you like macaroni and cheese, you have GOT to visit my Facebook page. I posted a photo yesterday that you just might enjoy.

Drowsey: It’s OK if you post often, like you, it becomes one of many weekly posts :)

Lauren: What you mustn’t ask is how long I’ve been chewing it! :)

Awake: I hadn’t thought of it that way, I must admit ;)

JD: Oh the glass poo! Ha ha! I checked out your Facebook and was drooling – Yummy!

    Awards = LINKS

The reason they are started and passed around is for links. When I am “sent” an award with no link, it’s like Mac n Cheese with no cheese!
I have a meme / award blog. The links go out from a Page Rank 3 source, and my main blog is not all covered with filler.

Some of these awards are different, and have a “spin” to them. I will put awards from new blog friends, and awards with an interesting sub-catagory on my main blog. I think, as with anything, a post is what you make of it. Even an award or meme can be molded into something interesting.

As for an awards only page: “GOOD idea if links are found by Google / Technorati and flow outward“.

Beetle, this is a much needed subject to cover, and I am glad you brought it up. While I have no problem with these awards, some bloggers sent them out constantly. More than one in a six month period is TOO MANY, in my opinion.

Loved your answers for the addictions. I think my biggest addiction is that darn energy drink “Snake Eyes”. It is such a rip off at 2 dollars a can!!!!!!!! Just love the stuff though. As for Nicorette??? – I can understand that one ;-)

    Happy week from SpeedyCat

I can understand your reasoning about awards, I feel a guilt trip to post them when received as I know they were meant in the nice-est way but it feels kind of funny.. like when you wear a new dress and telling everyone so… nah.. just not me.
I think everyone understands the posting of them though :)

That one was fun! I love the cheese too! Only home made mac N Cheese ( i like the onions in it!) ;)

Speedy: Yes, I agree that is primarily for the links. This is what’s been concerning me. If I forget to post some, they don’t get their link back and then I feel bad. To have a dedicated page with links seems, for me to be the best answer. It takes the pressure off and I can write post on awards when I want to without the guilt.
I’ve never heard of Snake Eyes – obviously a US drink :)

Vampy Vic: Yes I feel bad because I know I have forgotten to post about some. This seems a better way, for me to have a dedicated link page.

Oh yes, home made macaroni cheese is the best!

  23. LiudmilaNo Gravatar | 7 January 2009 at 17:45

Maybe I’m not correct saying it, but I don’t like all these awards. Because, for me, the word “award” is not the same as “pass it to the first best”. I would understand if they had something interesting, learning etc. But it is only remembering the same friends. I love and appreciate my friends (as you do, clear) and I like “Empty Form” as buddhist therm but not like when every nice looking word becomes empty form. Excuse me.

Liudmila: I understand what you are saying Liudmila, in some cases that may be true. Possibly the word ‘Award’ is not correctly used.

Jenn: Yes, I think many are finding it difficult to know what to do. I hope this way works for the links :)

  26. JayNo Gravatar | 9 January 2009 at 0:47

    Thanks, Babs! :)

Your blog IS fabulous! I especially like the idea of an awards page, and I’ve been meaning to get around to it myself. Maybe when OH and I are over this fluey thing we both have.

    Meanwhile, thank you, dahling! Mwah!!

    Mmm … cheesy mash.

Smart decision about the “awards” Babs. I’ve been struggling with the same thing. I appreciate the acknowledgment but I still have a day job (ugh). It’s a challenge some days to work on the site – so much to do, so much to say, seemingly never enough time.

  30. beetleNo Gravatar | 13 January 2009 at 14:18

Jan: We’re loving it! I work up quite a sweat – and I NEVER perspire!

Christa: Oh I understand. I don’t work and I still don’t have enough time ;)
