Are we mad?

posted by Babs on Thursday, 8 January 2009

wiifitWe bought a Wii.

For someone who gets out of breath climbing the stairs to go to bed, having spent almost a year blogging, this may be a little adventurous, don’t you think?   Well that’s exactly why we bought it.

Since I caught the blogging bug, I have never been so unfit!  Something had to be done, and I wasn’t about to give up my blogging!  Luckily Mo felt the same so this was her Christmas present from me - thank goodness she’s having fun with it as well as me!

I have to say, I was a bit concerned that it would be one of those ‘five minute wonders’ but I somehow don’t think so.  I played a mean round of golf today and enjoyed a game of tennis with Mo.  I even had a few rounds in the boxing ring.

wii2

If this is the way of future gaming, I have to say it’s a vast improvement over sitting with a controller in your hand, exercising your fingers!  It would be nice to think that kids may get hooked on Wii.  The games are  not the real thing, but they come fairly close.

I think this is going to be the most fun way ever to get fit, and hopefully lose some extra pounds!

Mo victorious in her tennis match!

How fun. If you enjoy it then you are miles ahead of the game. We can’t just sit, we have to move around. Good for the both of you.

Oh, I posted the award you gave me too. Thanks again.

    Big hug. :)

I just picked up DDR for Wii tonight. I have not played it yet since I refuse to learn it while the kids are in the house. Wii Fit is not a bad little workout and I try to do it at least 30 minutes a day. I finally got a perfect score on the step aerobics…yeah, I rock!

I am the same way. Ever since I started my blogs about 2 years ago, I’ve been spending more and more time building them up, instead of building myself up. I’ve gained about 15 pounds, and I’m afraid I’ll keep growing.

I’ve really decided to get in shape, and I heard the Wii Fit is a great way to do it. All my friends have one and I’m totally jealous. I need to go get one ASAP!

Looks like fun! Everyone I know who has one loves it and haven’t heard anyone who’s bored of it yet. My niece and husband find it great for their kids in the winter and then they use it at night as it’s hard for them to get to the gym with their family obligations.

Looking forward to hearing about your rematch!

I couldn’t agree more! It’s not a system that you play for a while and then lose interest in. It keeps getting more fun and interesting the more you play. And it gets me off the couch!

I love Mo’s victorious reaction. We usually run around the living room ala Rocky Balboa (even when we’re not boxing). It’s extraordinarily fun to play. I know I sound like a commercial for the product, but it really is THAT good!

Have fun, and remember — always wear the wrist strap! Don’t want to fling the remote into your TV!

  27. DerekNo Gravatar | 9 January 2009 at 5:30

Found my way here via the CommentLuv active sites list and had to say that the Wii is actually really fun and can give you a decent workout, particularly for those of us that aren’t accustomed to a ton of activity.

We got a Wii in 2007 for Christmas…I will never forget waking up so sore the next day after spending most of the day challenging the kids in the different sports. Boxing was brutal.

But then I am one of those people, if you do something do it right.. and I guess I put more into the silly games than my body could take.. I just love the boxing, even if it is a bit slow to react :)

Lauren: If you can ever afford it, get one! It IS such fun - but I hurt :)

chat blanc: I truly would recommend it to anyone - this is such fun while having a workout!

Derek: Welcome! Oh, I have already found out the drawbacks of overdoing the first day ha ha! I haven’t yet heard anybody say they don’t like the Wii. To be honest, it’s probably the only way I will ever get enough exercise!

Vampy Vic: As I said to Derek, I already overdid it! Boxing and baseball did it for me! I was always sporty when I was younger, so I love to play these games as realistically as possible too ;) I will give a little update on how we’re doing, every now and then.

Greg: I so agree with you! I don’t think much would get both Mo and I up off our seats every day, but this is so enjoyable :)

How are you doing with it? Is it too easy to do too much?

  39. beetleNo Gravatar | 9 January 2009 at 17:02

JD: Ha ha! You MUST get one! I can just imagine your post having used it for too long the first time!!

Mamaflo: I don’t think you would be disappointed with it. I’m only sorry that I’m playing catch up with the weight problem ;)

Jay: Erm…..yes to your question about it being too easy to do too much :) Only because it is such fun, so you don’t want to stop. Can you imagine exercise being that much fun?

  40. Dragon BloggerNo Gravatar | 9 January 2009 at 19:22

Congratulations on the Wii, I have used it to lose weight and found with the original Wii Sports, try doing 15 minutes of boxing straight match after match works best.

Wii Fit though was where I really started to tone and help, the routines in there are much more geared for actual toning and weight loss.

Either way, the wii is fun and my kids do it with me.

I’m glad you’re enjoying your Wii. How are you liking Wii Fit now that you have it set up?

We just got a Wii last week. I was a dummy and bought the Wii Fit first not knowing that we had to have the console to make it work! LOL Luckily I learned of my mistake quickly and ordered the console quickly.

We bought the first Nintendo Entertainment system back in the early 90’s and as much as I enjoyed several of those games it really was a time waster just sitting on the couch. At least with the Wii you’re moving about and burning some calories while you have fun. Not to mention the exercises on Wii Fit. It’s win win all the way.

I really enjoy the boxing game! Then tennis and bowling on the Wii sports disk.

I’ve gotten out of shape being stuck at home due to illness and sitting on my bum blogging blogging blogging so I think this is going to help a LOT.

I’m loving it so much that I bought three more games last week - We Ski, Big Beach Sports and Raymon Raving Rabbids TV Party … they arrived on Friday but between having very sore muscles on Friday after playing several times for three days and then a busy weekend I haven’t even tried the new games yet. Sometime today I’ll give each of them a try. I made a point to buy really active games - I don’t want to be a “sofa Queen” anymore. LOL

Keep using your Wii and enjoy! Give us some updates and if you get any interesting games let us know what you think of them. ;)
