Oh what a birthday present!

posted by Babs on Friday, 22 January 2010

Here it is – My new iMac!

It’s my birthday on Sunday so this couldn’t have been timed any better.

iMacI waited until today, so I could get some daylight photos – Who was I kidding?  It’s so dark and miserable that I had to use a flash anyway!  That did NOT dampen my mood any.  I am thrilled – It is beautiful, and yes I smell the new Mac smell too.  I wish I could bottle that smell.

It will be a long job getting it to the state of my other iMac, but there’s no real rush I suppose. They haven’t given me my old hard disk yet so I still don’t have any of my files.

I have never seen such a tiny keyboard.  Just look at this!  When I unpacked it I thought it was a piece of cardboard it was so weightless.

I put my iPhone there so you could see the size better.

And the mouse is beautiful!

mouse

You can see that it’s flat with no buttons.  You don’t need buttons.  It works just the same as a scroll mouse.  To scroll you just brush your finger on the surface.  To scan a page you brush two fingers left or right.  It’s like a track pad on a mouse.  Left and right buttons are the same as any mouse.

I haven’t got into the actual computer, and what it does yet.  I haven’t had time.  Would you believe we’ve had two lots of visitors today?  Mind you they are the first people we’ve seen since New years Eve so we were very glad of the company.

Am I happy?  What do you think?

Woohoo ! Yay Babs ! New computers are so exciting to open – and Mac users are perhaps most excited about it.

I’ve used the new iMac – it’s beautiful.
The keyboard is so nimble – but do you feel comfortable typing with it ?

Oh, my goodness! That’s very stylish, Babsie! Happy birthday for Sunday! I hope you have a great day!

I need to replace my old Windows machine. I’m thinking of a Mac mini because the problem with the iMac for me is that you can’t alter the height of the screen and it’s too tall for me. I could have just an ordinary monitor with the mini and it would still be a whole lot smaller than the Dell.

LadyBanana: Oh yes, I am very happy!

Jaffer: Yes I love the keyboard! I don’t see why we need large keyboards. Some might take a day or so to get used to it, but not me :D

Kathy: I feel so blessed! All I need now is to sort out a way of running my old graphics programme and I’m sorted :)

Jay: Yes the iMac is a little higher than most screens, though it is perfect for me. When I got my first iMac, I did need a seat adjustment. I look at the screen with my head perfectly straight and that is just right for my neck. The Mac Mini is a nice little computer, and I’ve no doubt a much higher spec that the first Mini’s they brought out. A good move me thinks ;)

Wow! little sister, what a beautiful sight that is. You must be over the moon and sitting on cloud No.9 in seventh heaven! There’s probably more metaphores, but I can’t think of them.

I have that keyboard and mouse. Believe me, the Magic Mouse is a GREAT improvement over the Mighty Mouse. No roll ball to get jammed and stuck! I love it to pieces! They’re both compatible with my 5 year old G5, which I think needs a major memory upgrade to kick it back in line, but other than that, it’s still good.

Can you update on how the merging of hard drives goes? I’ve never tried it, and I’m a little afraid to. :D

Awake: Hi there! I think ‘cool’ is the word :)

Jamie: I am loving them both! I’m afraid I won’t be migrating from my other drive, or I would let you know. I will just copying across bit as I want them.

    Tina: I certainly am blessed!

Meleah: I just knew you would love it. I can’t wait to make a movie on it. Isn’t the mouse great?

Swubird: I love the mouse. It’s far better, and more comfortable than the mighty mouse, though I think you should seek out a few men that use it to make sure it suits a larger hand.

Ruth: Yes, it is all of those things, and yes, I DID see the new iPad, and yes, I WOULD love one :D

Congratulations! I’m very jealous of course. I have a 5 year-old PC that still works perfectly and the frugal geek in me won’t let me upgrade. Of course it doesn’t hurt that both my son and I are in the computer repair biz so keeping it running smoothly is no big challenge. Still… I want a shiny new pretty one like yours!
