He lights up our life!
At Christmas, our neighbour hung some fairy lights on a tree at the bottom of his garden which, in effect, is also the bottom of our garden. They are still there, flashing and blinking at us each time we look out of the window.
It’s only a couple of months, you might say. You’d be wrong! It wasn’t this Christmas he hung them there. It was Christmas three or four years ago!
I took this photo through our back window which I might add, is where I sit blogging.
They’ve survived many a storm and when we’ve had really high winds, and the lights are blown down Mo and I laugh and say “Oh well they’ve finally gone.” The next day they are back full gusto, flashing and blinking at us! The lights went off during one storm and we decided that they would definitely come down now that they were broken. The next day…. you’ve guessed it… there they were again! He must have bought a new set.
I guess we have to accept that they are a permanent fixture.

There are still some houses on my streets that have left their Christmas decorations on. They are very beautiful – but none blink or make music.
But if this person really loves blinky lights and insist on having them the whole year, something is wrong with him.

Well, as you say he lights up your lives.. I guess as long as it doesn’t keep you awake or disturb you then it’s OK!

He’s one determined guy, isn’t he? It doesn’t sound like the flashing of the lights bothers you or Mo, which is good. I’d probably find myself a little annoyed. Oh, who am I kidding? I’d be a LOT annoyed!

Jaffer: I think they must be a bit weird to want them on all year round – and flashing too!
Lady Banana: We have very quiet neighbours, and it could be a lot worse than flashing lights. We could have neighbours from hell!
Kathy: Ha ha! No it doesn’t bother us at all. First, it’s out in the back garden and second, we have usually closed the blinds before he switches them on. We don’t see them unless we make a point of looking

Nothing like having Christmas year round. I like it.
Have a terrific day Babs.

Our next door neighbours have a back garden like Blackpool Illuminations. Not Christmas lights, just lots of lights everywhere! It looks quite nice with them dotted around amongst the foliage. It looked particularly pretty with all the deep snow we had recently:0)

At least he isn’t playing music with those lights! I wonder if you could put a large mirror up and position it in just such a way as to have those light reflect back into his bedroom window at night?

Perhaps those lights are close to your neighbour’s bedroom window or something… you know, like a night light to help him sleep? Or in this case… many night lights! :p

Fairy lights. Good thing I met Brits before reading your blog.
I think that they go with fags, and fannies :O and getting pissed. WOOT! I slay me Babs!

Babs:
My neighbor does the same thing. As soon as she moved in she put up blinking lights all over her huge Bougainvilla bush and they’ve been there ever since. They’re nice, but it lights up our backyard like a carnival. So my Queen went to IKEA and bought a giant pile of lights and we’ve strung then all over our plants and even the fence. We’ll see who gives in first! Blink! Blink!
Happy trails.

That is so funny! Our across the street neighbor does the same thing. Except his tree is a little 3 feet tall pine – x-mas tree all lit up – all year long

Sandee: Yes, it is pretty to see, I must admit
Sandie: We have solar lights dotted around in our garden too. They look lovely as it gets dark. It’s just a nice glow.
granny Grimble: Not seen any yet
Angela: Ha ha! He switches them off before going to bed. They don’t really bother us, I just think it’s a bit weird
Tony: I just realised, I say he, but it may be his wife that likes them, though I doubt she climbed the tree to fix them up there
Lauren: Ha ha! I could come up with a lot more I expect. I might do a special ‘Cockny’ post one day.
Swubird: Ha ha! That’s very funny Swubird! Maybe she’ll put even more up
Ivanhoe: I wonder what it is about lights that we humans like so much. On the whole, we are drawn to them. Fireworks too

It would drive me insane, and I’d have to put in a complaint. Twinkly lights are pretty at Christmas, but I wouldn’t want to look at them all year!

Jay: We don’t actually see the lights, unless we open our blinds for some reason. They are only on for a few hours at night. I just think it’s funny that he is so insistent in keeping them

That’s funny, but it’s not the worst case of “Perpetual Christmas” I’m aware of. In Lafayette, Indiana (USA), where I lived before moving to North Carolina, there is a pair of brothers who have had a Christmas tree lit in their picture window since 1979. No real reason, other than they are bachelor brothers and felt it was a waste of time to take it down and put it back up every year.

Laffin! When we started reading, we thought you were saying he just left the lights up. Not necessarily: Up & On!
Maybe he thinks he’s in one of those quaint little Austrian villages or such… expecting the night life to party down any minute.

I have to admit: if I could figure out how to put up outdoor lights, I’d have them up all year, too. I love them! As it is, I’m glad some of my neighbors still have theirs up. Still, no one’s beating your guy’s record of 3-4 years.
And I love the term “fairy lights”! So much nicer than our “Christmas lights” or just “lights.”

Lee: Oh my! It must be very dusty. That’s 30 years! That must be a record for Christmas lights :O)
Maggy, Zoey & Ann: Yes, maybe he can’t be bothered to buy garden lights, so he uses Christmas lights :O)
Bryan: I must confess to liking lights in gardens too, but we have garden lights which are down low.
Brad: Oh don’t feel bad. Mo is leaving our lights, that are around the roof, up all year! Not lit up though
JD: Why not get the garden lights that you stick in the ground? They look very pretty in amongst the plants. You can get solar powered, so there’s no need for electricity. I didn’t realise that fairy lights was a British thing. It’s probably an old fashioned term to use now anyway. We’re getting so Americanised

Well obviously Babs you have some English Rednecks living next door..lol!!!
That’s the joke over here and a line in a very well known C&W song Red Neck woman by Gretchen Wilson.
you and Mo should go and listen to the song on YouTube. It’s the song my daughter chose for me at her wedding. I could have killed her.
But, then when I griped about it to my husband and other kids they said, well mom, it does sort of suit you! *Gasp*!!
Her father’s song was a lovely ballad that would bring to your eyes. And he has never even babysat for her.
Now this is just not right. Also my Christmas lights have been taken down now the day after ever since.

I have more to tell you. I am having a nightmare with my top drop list. you are my top dropper but I can’t seem to get the feed to update. Thank you so much for this also. I have had one tough week and missed being here almost everyday and you show up just like clockwork for me.
Hopefully now that Ana is done with both blogs I will be here for you and Mo everyday too!!
Happy Weekend you 2:-)))

Shinade: Oh I laughed so much at your comment…. and then when I listened to that song! Especially about the Christmas lights! I’m not sure what a redneck girl is but I imagine you to be the sort of woman that isn’t afraid to muck in and get her hands dirty :O)
And he never even babysat for her. Hahahaha!
