A thank you, and a rant!
Mo and I would like to thank all of you that left such kind and caring comments on the last two posts. It means a great deal to us both. Unfortunately we are still waiting for the results. I have never known results take this long and we are hoping that it’s a case of ‘No news is good news’.
Meanwhile, I thought I would post a bit of a rant. Today Mo bought a tiny fold up foot stool. You can see that it had a very over-sized label on it.
Mo is one of those people that never removes labels, not even from cookware! Hmmm….it reminds me of a blogger I know. Anyway, I decided to whip this one off quickly.
Who was I kidding? It was stuck so fast that the surface of the label came away when I tried to remove it. Nothing will budge that label. I know that if I tried I would end up with a sticky, torn up mess all over the stool, so now we have to use a little white stool with a horrible black label on it! Why on earth do they do this? Is it their idea of a practical joke? Did someone in the factory say “I know, let’s make GREAT BIG labels and then stick them on with Araldite so no-one can remove them”, and were they all laughing as they did this? Was it the highlight of the week in their otherwise monotonous job? Whatever their reasons, it makes me SO mad!
If any of you know of a way to remove it without leaving behind a sticky mess I would love to hear it.

Stumble it!

hahaha I hate labels on things too!
In most cases Eucalyptus oil shoudl remove, but just do a little test patch first.. I would not want to be responsible for putting a worse mess on your stool
We are all still purring for good results

Uff, I understood, these are all fabrics that have tooo noisy jobs… Last time I had to remove the lable from a kitchen-thing I put it in the water and waited the paper becomes wet. Than I tryed to remove it with a hard brush. After about 2 hours the paper went away …but the stick remained!!!!!!! And when I have to use it i am allways sticked to it.
So, unfortunatelly I have no advise to give you. The only is:
DON’T REMOVE THE ONLY PAPER!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm, I think I know that blogger you’re talking about who has a “label problem.”
I’ve heard that directing hair dryer heat to a label will warm the adhesive enough that the label will come right off.
Good luck! That’s a big stupid ugly label!

I’m going to say “no news is good news.” If it were bad news, they’d tell you right away, I would think.
I still have big, stupid labels on a nice set of wine glasses we received as a wedding gift. I’m ashamed to use them!

Babs:
The label is there for the same reason that bloggers have pop-up ads on their sites, and car dealers put their name on your license holder–advertising!
I have and many many fights with sticky ads on the products I have purchased. It;s a royal pain.
Good luck.
Happy trails.

Vampy Vic: I always use petrol on the sticky goo. It gets it off but is hard and smelly work! If it was any other item, I would take it back to the shop!
Eric & Flynn: I’ve never tried baby oil, but I imagine it might well work.
Mike: It’s such a large area I don’t fancy trying
Liudmila: You know I think you have the best idea. Leave it alone!
Kathy: Well who else could I mean? The hairdryer may work, but I think warm, sticky glue would be just as hard to remove. I don’t fancy my chances much. I’m growing more fond of the label, the more I think about removing it
granny Grimble: This is such a large label, and on something very unimportant so I think leaving it on is my easiest option!
JD: I am thinking the same as you. That the less urgent news gets put to the bottom of the pile for notification. Lets pray that’s the case. I think this label will definitely stay! Won’t your labels come off?
Swubird: Yes, you’re right. Any chance of advertising they will use, even if it’s by putting labels on items that won’t come off!

Sticky Stuff Remover from Betterware is absolutely fantastic. I would never be without two bottles. One for my craft room and one for the kitchen. You would be surprised how many times it gets used. It is for removing the sticky residue left after a label is taken off.

Mayonaise will remove it. It also works great at removing bumper stickers from your car bumper. However if you’re from the South it’s gotta be Dukes Mayo.
Just slap the mayo on and wait for a little while and it’ll slip right off. Or you could add a little bacon and lettuce… Just sayin’

I’m a warm water and soap person myself. I have no idea why they do stuff like that. It makes me mad as a hornet when I buy something that I can’t open or “un-label”. Good luck to you!

I have a can of Sticky Stuff remover too! I thought it was from Kleenezee, but it could be Betterware. It works, but you do have to soak the whole label thoroughly with it and leave it for longer than they say (for the tough ones) and I’d think for that monstrosity, you’d need a whole can! Oh, and use it OUTSIDE – it stinks, and it’s toxic to breathe and the smell hangs around.
It is infuriating. I’m going to start trying to peel the label in the store, and if it doesn’t come off easily, I’m going to refuse to buy it unless they can get it off for me first. Ha!
Good luck with the results! I agree, usually, the bad news comes through quite quickly. Fingers crossed!

Hmmm, I’ve had luck with peanut butter… creamy of course. And a product we have over here called Goo Gone works really well. Plus, it has a pleasant citrus smell.

GOO GONE is my favorite. (yellow oily citrus smelling stuff). But really I want to talk about that little stool. It’s THE BEST! I love mine. Small, yet strong, and it folds up for storage.

Sandie: We never buy from betterware. I usually use Petrol but this one is so big I don’t think I want the job!
Leeuna: I’m in the UK :O) It must be the oil in the mayo that does the trick.
Barb: I usually use the warm water, followed by petrol (or white spirit) to remove the sticky, but it’s an unpleasant job and one that I won’t be tackling on a label this size!
Jay: You know, for the cost of the stool, I’d rather throw it out than tackle the job – but the best solution all round is to just leave the jolly label on it. It’s only a jobbing stool
Jeff: That’s peanut butter and Mayo now. I could just eat my lunch on it and wait for the label to drop off!
Joanna: I’m thinking you’re right!! Thank you for the love and prayers
Marsha: Oh yes! The stool is great. We also have a dark green one and use it all the time. I hasten to add that the label came off easily with that one!
Meleah: Thank you for your prayers :O) I have decided that I LOVE the label now. It stays!!

i would take the stool back and exchange it for another. the stores here will exchange anything, even w/o the receipt. even after you use it. if i don’t want it or don’t like it, it goes back.
beetle
| 16 June 2009 at 13:53
Meleah: Ha ha! I think I will keep it!
Natural: I would take it back without a second thought, if it was something that either remained on view or cost a fair amount of money. As this is only a little jobbing stool, and was very cheap I won’t. We do have some stores that take back anything, and you don’t have to give them a reason either. I must say it’s good to know that not every store fleeces you

Gah! The first thing I do to EVERYTHING I get is whip the label off… and if it tears like that, I get out the Goo Gone. My OCD will not let me live with stupid paper labels.
A girl at work still has the label on her pen cup on her desk.
Yeah, do you really need to be told that it’s a PEN CUP??? There are PENS in it!!!! Tear the damn thing off already!
Sorry. Ranting must be catching.

Oh we hate the labels, too!! We can’t figure out why they don’t just put the labels on that peel of easily!! And we use Goo Gone to get off real hard labels!

Maureen: The girl at work sounds just like Mo, though she has just used the hairdryer and a liberal amount of petrol and got the label off the stool for me. That’s a first!
Samantha, Tigger & Maverick: I think they should stop using labels all together. They have enough info on the packaging!
We are guessing that it must be good news too.
