Summertime blues

posted by Babs on Friday, 13 June 2008

I’m going to have a good old moan today!

My last post was welcoming our summer right? It was a good summer, not the summer of ‘69, but a good summer.

Notice the past tense used in the previous sentence. Yes, it was deliberate. Just four days later, with the temperature slowly dropping by the hour, it is a cool 15c (59F). It is cloudy and raining and I’m sitting here in three layers of clothing, which includes a fleece jacket, just to keep from shivering off my seat!

Why am I sitting in a fleece jacket instead of Just putting the heating on? Well, just to make things even worse, our central heating died on us this year. We have been told that we must have the complete system replaced. That lovely bit of news means all the floor boards must come up, in every room. Of course that also means all the fitted carpets must be lifted too. The thing I’m dreading the most, is all the eight legged creatures that will start the long trek out of the darkness and into our living areas. This will be a time of fear for me, with eyes darting around all night long, jumping at every little shadow and screaming at tiny dust bunnies! If we’re really lucky we may have it done before the winter sets in.

Back to the summer. I definitely remember much warmer summers where, in general, you could be confident that it would be dry and warm for long periods of time. Now, it seems, we are blessed if we get two or three warm, dry days on the trot. Where, oh where are our summers?

Just so I can wallow in my misery, what temperature is it where you are today?

Those warm dry summers are still there, but we left them behind in Kent and moved to Yorkshire:0)

Having said that, Yorkshire is a thousand times nicer, and the surrounding countryside is spectacular!

I think you’ll find that they have had awful weather too – sometimes worse than us!

Wallowing is so much fun! Let me help you wallow even deeper by saying that it’s 75 here, sunny, breezy, beautiful.

(I’ll be wallowing myself when this weekend is over and we’re alternating between freezing rain and stifling heat.)

If we want to call this summer…It rains and rains and rains for months. We have a wet house and I wear autumn clothes till today and we sleep under feather-clothes else.

It’s very good for me. I don’t like hot summers. I feel good with 20-25°.
But now when it not rains we have till 32°, after an hour begin to rain and the t° is 17°… I’m all ill…

“on the trot” lol … it’s been a while since I heard someone use that

Well, since you gave me so much sympathy in my post (uh huh) I’ll give you some right back ;)

It been too hot here lately, so I guess no one’s happy.

Too bad about the heating system tho, that’s a real pain.

What a shame about your heating system. I won’t add to your lack of summer warmth misery-it’s raining here today.

JD: 75 is a lovely temperature – perfect!

Liudmila: Your weather sounds even worse than ours.

Drowsey Monkey: Showing my age I guess ;O)

    Beetle:

You poor girl. That is going to cost a lot. Heating and air conditioning repairs are something I regret every year. We’ve lived in this same place for thirty years now, so, just like human beings, the old house has its aches and pains, and it has to see the house doctor more frequently now days. Money. Money. Money!

I also hate spiders. Of all the things on this planet, nothing bothers me as much as an eight legged little spider. We have Black Widows, and those really give me the creeps.

I hope things work out for you.

    Happy trails ahead.

Swubird: Yes money, money is right.

Our spider are not poisonous, like yours, but just as ugly ha ha!

Just to let you know that Zoey got quirky today…
or at the least, she gave it considerable thought…
