Such a cute birdie!
Look what we found in our front garden!
A baby blackbird, well Mo said his mum was a blackbird, so I must assume he was also. He was in a tree right by our window and obviously couldn’t fly. He was chirping away and his mother was circling around and coming down to feed him.
Then his mother stopped coming down to him and we got a bit concerned. He kept calling but she didn’t come. He even came out from the centre of the tree to look for her. Isn’t he cute?
In case you’re wondering. Yes we did keep the cats locked in!
I took this photo from inside the house, so you can see how close he was. We thought his mum may be nervous to fly so close to the house and that he may die. Eventually the calling stopped and Mo went out to see if he was OK and he was gone! She made a thorough search inside the tree but he was definitely gone. I hope and pray that he found his wings. We had seen his mother sitting up high across the road, so maybe she was teaching him to fly.
Any of you know about the habits of birds, and can put our minds at ease?

Oh, great. Now I won’t sleep tonight worrying about your little birdie! He is indeed a cutie. I hope he reunites with his mama soon. Please check again in the morning and let us know if you see him again, OK?

This is what the parents do to get them to fly. They make them take that first flight and then it’s off to the next lesson. It’s frightening to watch, but it happens to every little bird family. It’s time for him to make his own way in birdie life.
Have a terrific day.

I don’t know, Babs. After the bluebirds came in our house (story on my sidebar) we didn’t see them the whole rest of the year and the next. I was sure I’d done them in.

I love pictures of animals. There was a nest of little eggs on my mother’s porch of the prettiest little eggs. The picture came out beautiful.

We have had baby blue jays in our yard. It is kind of disturbing because they are ground nesters. Which made me and my husband really worried about stray cats and such eating them. There was one little guy in the back yard and one on the porch, The mother and father went back and forth between the two and took care of them for about two weeks or so… then I believe they can fly. I hope so because they are gone.

Kathy: I am sure he flew away. He has definitely gone, and was protected by the fact that he was so close to our house. Nothing else would come that close.
Meleah: He was cute and let us get so close without panicking
Sandee: I’m sure you are right. It’s mother was still circling from a way off. Keeping her eye on him
Ruth: I did read that post, but will have to refresh my memory, just to see if you did ‘em in or not!
Lauren: I wonder if they used to eat blackbirds in olden days!
Ivanhoe: Yes, the more I think about it, the more convinced I am that he did fly away! We would have heard his cries if anything bad had happened.
LaTonya: Yes, he posed so well for me looking at me and blinking his little eyes
Michelle: I bet they did fly away. There would be some sign of disturbance if a cat had got to them. I’m sure you would have known.

Well if he’s not on the ground he should be okay, right?
Unless……
Never mind, I’m sure he’s fine.

All I can tell you is that this happened to me twice, and I was beside myself. The first time, we saw a wee baby bird sitting on a branch outside our front window; the second time, the bird was RIGHT on the ledge outside our window. Our cats were less than an inch away, separated only by the screen. In both cases, we could hear the mama chirping, but nothing seemed to happen. In both cases, the baby disappeared.
I am sure, in both your case and mine, that the mama bird swooped down, enveloped her baby in her wings, took her back to the nest, and fed her worms and comforted her. I AM SURE.

Sue: Well as we only have cats that are a threat to birds, I think he managed to fly away. Our cats were safely locked in and we don’t have many cats in this area. I think I’m happy that he is safe
JD: I am sure too. In this case the bird was already too big for that. I don’t know how he got in our garden because he couldn’t fly. All the large trees are at the back. It’s a mystery, but I’m sure he was OK

Oh, I know EXACTLY how you feel; we had that baby robin in our yard just a few weeks ago. And you’re right; we get all panicky when we can’t find them, when all along they have probably found their wings and are fine.
I was just comforted that I found no signs of, well, er… trouble, which had to satisfy my curiosity.
What a cutie he is!

Maureen: I remember your post about the robin. We can’t help feeling protective towards little creatures can we? We are so aware of our three cats with the birds, and often save them from the jaws of death!
Mike: Thank you for telling me about that. I will look into it

Well, I certainly hope this story has a happy ending. I’d feel better if you knew what happened to the little guy.
Happy trails.

Oh, yes, it happens a lot. We’ve had several nests in the garden this year and I’m quite used to the plaintive cheeping of babies being ‘encouraged’ to fly! Sometimes the mother is nowhere to be seen, but you can be sure they are around, watching. If the babe doesn’t take off in a certain period of time, the parent birds will feed them where they are, but not much! it’s the only way to get them going, I think.
Sweet little thing, isn’t it? And great photo!
Ooh, the bird feeder outside the window just gave a huge shudder and clang and there’s the jackdaw, bouncing around on the fragile-looking hooky thing at the top! Now there’s a black bird for ya! LOL!

Swubird: I am sure he flew away. We don’t have cats (besides ours) or anything else that would harm a bird here. It’s mother wasn’t far away either
Bloggers Over 50: Thank you.
Jay: I just knew you would know all about birdies
A jackdaw! Yes, a very black bird.

I have 8 conure for pets and lots of bird feeders around my home. I truly love and care for birds. Having them has taught me how smart they are and that they indeed have a sense of reasoning and a sense of taste. I learn so much about humans from watching these heavenly creatures.
