Am I in the dog house?

posted by Babs on Monday, 13 July 2009

doodleI’m very sorry that I haven’t been around much lately.  Since we had the health scare it’s been hard for me to get back into blogging and commenting on posts as much as usual.  I’m sure I will soon, but please be patient with me.

I look at my feed list and it’s so daunting at the moment.  So many posts to read that I put it off until tomorrow.  Tomorrow comes and the numbers are even higher!   I think the only answer is to empty it and start afresh with ‘NIL’ posts to read.  Maybe then I can get my head around it!  Either you are all posting too often, or I am getting a bit slow in reading and commenting!

Sorry if I miss any real gems in doing this, but I have to do something!!  The bigger the mountain gets, the less inclined I am to climb it!  I’ve only got little legs.

Here we go then ….. 1 …. 2 …… 3 …… zaaaapppp!

I’m sorry!

Oh, Babs! I feel the same way sometimes. Reading blogs shouldn’t be a burden or a chore. If you’re busy or overwhelmed, blow it off! Life’s too short. I do feel bad that I’m probably missing some good posts by not keeping up on my reading, but my intentions are good. I’d LOVE to have the time to read everyone’s posts, every day, but I just don’t.

Speaking for myself, I certainly understand that people are too busy to read or comment on every post. And I’m sure everyone else feels the same way.

That’s okay, Babs. I’m thinking about stepping away from my blog for a little bit as well. Too busy with last few weeks of school and not feeling too creative anyways.
    See you around :o )

    What JD said!

I stepped way back from my blog and my cat’s blog. It had started to feel more like work than fun, and wasn’t fun why I started blogging? Stress relief and a bit of an escape? Yup.

I frequently hit Mark all as Read! And you know what, the world kept on spinning!

When I’m gone for a long period of time I just hit the ‘mark all as read’ button and the stress level goes away. It’s just what you have to do now and then. Go ahead and do it. Just saying.

    Have a terrific day. :)

It’s crazy trying to keep up. I used to worry about not posting every other day. But you know what? That’s only more for someone to read. I like to think my laziness is actually a blessing. Do you understand my backwards logic?

Anyway, I bet you feel better now after the ZAP! It’s always nice to start fresh.

JD: Yes, you are right life is too short, and mine’s getting shorter too quickly to worry over things :)

Ivanhoe: As long as we don’t step away for too long – and that means you too ;)

Barb: Right! The world does keep spinning, whether I read and comment on every blog post or not. I don’t want it to become a chore. I want to enjoy reading and take my time with it.

Sandee: I realize that now. Once I hit that button I felt much better!

Mike: And there was I thinking I was alone in this :)

Kathy: Oh yes! I understand your logic perfectly. Please don’t post more often I will get all stressed out again :) Yes, I feel better now too!

Aw, Babs, don’t put so much pressure on yourself. It’s hard to get motivated sometimes.

You know, Babs, I thought of you today as some Google searcher was apparently searching on “hot babs in spandex”– I thought that would make you laugh. :)

    Hey Babs !

Look at me ! I just signed into Google Reader after a long time to see a few hundred unread posts !

In my experience this is the time of the year where many personal blogs slow down. It happens to me and I see a noticeable change in the quality of posts at other blogs.

It’s already hard to keep up with a so many blogs already. Heck I thought I needed a break from you guys !

Well, as long as I know that you are fine – I have nothing to worry about :-)

  11. meleah rebeccahNo Gravatar | 14 July 2009 at 0:35

Don’t apologize! I do that all the time. And then I go through my blog roll at my own pace and catch up when I can with whatever blog posts Ive missed.

Jaffer: Hello! I haven’t spoken to you for a while. You’re right, I can’t follow all those blogs and read and comment on every post. It would take all day, every day :)

Meleah: I don’t know how you do it, and write your book, AND look after your son!

  13. MaureenNo Gravatar | 14 July 2009 at 18:42

its definitely hard to keep motivated and agree with jaffer blogs tend to slow down during the summer months , i think posting everyday can harm your blog only i tend to think tblog if its worthwhile not just to fill a space

I think we all have to do that sometimes – clear them all out and start again or it becomes far too daunting to tackle at all :)

  16. beetleNo Gravatar | 14 July 2009 at 20:51

Maureen: I agree. I don’t like to post just for the sake of it, though I would like to keep it flowing as much as possible. Sometimes I just can’t ;)

Speedy: Hi! Glad you’re back. Yes, everything is hunky-dory now thank you, and big hugs back!

ladyBanana: Yes, when I looked at the list there were far too many posts to get through. I feel much better now that I can see one or two popping in at a time :)

Oh, no need to apologise, Babs! I often just respond to the latest post, if I’ve missed a few days, though I might run through the last few of a favourite blogger. But blogging shouldn’t be a chore and you mustn’t think you have to respond to anything, or it does become one. Keep it fun!

By the way – Zapping your posts like that is most appropriate for today. It’s the last letter of this round of ABC Wednesday! Well done, Babsie! LOL!

  19. beetleNo Gravatar | 15 July 2009 at 15:57

Jay: Oh very appropriate ;O) I think we have to make sure we keep it fun or we could end up not blogging anymore – and we don’t want that do we?

    Babs:

I think you did the right thing. I’ve also slowed down on the frequency of my posts. Plus, I have so many sites I like to visit that I’m out of time. It’s the creeping blogpost syndrome. Like a giant amoeba, it grows to the point that you can’t manage it.

    Happy trails.

Meleah: But you manage it, so well. Yes, it was good news eh? :)

Swubird: Ha ha! A giant amoeba! Blogging can easily get out of control and become less enjoyable if you aren’t careful.

Hey, I understand where you’re coming from. I took two months off due to a death in the family. Now it’s like pulling teeth to get back in the process of updating regularly, responding to comments, and visiting other blogs. It’s not that I don’t want to do those things. It’s that there are some many things to do that I don’t know where to start and everyday the list of possible somewheres grows.

  24. LiudmilaNo Gravatar | 16 July 2009 at 10:40

There are so many problems in the life -why create a problem from the thing that has to be a pleasure? Important is that the health-problems are solved. Everything other has to create joy. I think.

  25. beetleNo Gravatar | 16 July 2009 at 14:41

Staci: Yes, the best thing is to clear everything and start afresh! It’s sometimes the only way forward.

Liudmila: You are so right!! I am determined to enjoy life as much as possible. It doesn’t get any longer so we should take the less stressful route wherever possible ;)

  26. JeffNo Gravatar | 16 July 2009 at 14:45

You know, I did something that seems to be working out pretty well for me. About 6 months ago I categorized the blogs I read into 3 buckets, A, B and C, with “A” being the 10 or so blogs I read the most, “B” the ones I like to check on every week or so and “C” being the ones I usually just scan in the reader and maybe stop by in person every once in a while.

Since I only visit the “B” blogs every so often, it’s easy to clear them once a week, and I find I can clear “C” anytime without guilt.

I only mention this because I’ve been looking for a way to manage my reader for 4 years, and this actually works!

Health is first especially now with the swine flu going around. I just got back from Thailand and it is scary over there, I wanted to hold my breath on the trip back. But I feel great and survived:)
