No, it isn’t asking too much.

posted by Babs on Thursday, 23 July 2009

We were at the dentist again today, so decided to do a trawl of the area looking for a top for me – again! We made our way to Marks & Spencers.  I saw a few I liked but they were not long enough to cover my beautiful, trim (I told you, it’s my blog so I can say whatever I want) backside!  I strolled over to the ‘Per Una’ section and immediately saw what I wanted.  Would it look OK on me?  More’s to the point, would it FIT me?  I went into the changing room and put it on, waiting for the disappointment.  It was perfect!

top-2

It doesn’t look like much on the hanger, but it is one of those tops that when you put it on, you say “Oh yes!”  The neckline is lovely!  It’s casual, yet stylish at the same time, definitely summery, and is long enought to cover my beau…. oh OK!! Fat backside! I love it!

We also got a pair of trousers each at 50% off the usual price, so all in all I’m a very happy bunny today!

Speedy: Oh I remember those days so well! Just getting ready to go out and finding out that what I wanted to wear was in the wash still!

Sniffie and the Florida Furkids: Thanks. It was an instant like for me :)

Black Cat: I should shop there more often. I tend to think of food when I think of marks & Sparks ;)

Sandee: Yes, it’s nice to know that I can relax and just look forward to the day now!

Jackie: I will, no doubt have a lovely time and even more so now I have my clothes ;) I have emailed you.

Mike: Sorry to hear that. I think that some dentists are too nervous to treat some patients here too.

Michelle: *flapdoodle* that made me chuckle :) Oh I like to cover as much as possible from my waist to my thighs!

Stop covering your bum. As a woman with some junk in the trunk, I can tell you safely it’s much better not to cover it with shirts as they just make us look bigger. Let it come to just above, near your waist. it will actually give the appearance of a smaller rump. When i first moved to NYC a young black man I worked with told me point blank “you’ve got a big butt for a white girl!”

I went shopping too and because tees were only ten dollars
    each…good ones too…jones new york…chico’s…lauren
I bought entirely too many then came home to watch Opera talking about cutting back and saying she would pick up a penny in the street…yeah…sure she would…and if I saw her I would run her fat ass over…boy that felt good. if I saw the blouse you bought…I would have bought it too. nice choice.

I hate shopping with a purple passion. Two years ago I needed something for my nephew’s afternoon July wedding. I had 2 years to find something, so of course… I found it 2 days before my flight!

It’s a very nice top Babs. I have made about 4 trips to M&S and have found nothing. I know without looking that Per Una tops would be too short for me, as I am tall. I have the same trouble looking for 33inch inside leg trousers. Only M&S do them long enough and in my size, but nearly all the trousers with any style are made of linen, and crease so badly:0( So you see, there is something to be said for being a short****!!

  15. beetleNo Gravatar | 25 July 2009 at 0:14

Lauren: It depends what you mean by large. I could never wear a short top with trousers and expose my backside :)

Maureen: It’s nice when you can get a good bargain isn’t it? ;)

Ivanhoe: Ooh! I somehow don’t think there will be pics of me wearing it ;)

Barb: Ha ha! That’s so like me! Always wait until the last minute!

Sandie: So many of the tops are so short, even for me, so I don’t know how you manage! The trousers we got were ‘Long’ legs so we will end up cutting several inches off! :)

  16. Joanna JenkinsNo Gravatar | 25 July 2009 at 0:32

SCORE! The top looks great! And I’m sure you look fabulous in it :-)
    Have a great weekend.

  17. Jimmy BryantNo Gravatar | 25 July 2009 at 3:42

You can find shirts like this at the local thrift store for like 3 dollars all day long, go check it out…

  18. LaurenNo Gravatar | 25 July 2009 at 12:04

If you wear a top that stops at the waist and let your bum just be it will look less large. When big butt girls like myself and you (as you admit) cover it with a top’s bottom we actually extend the butt, making the appearace to be larger. It’s actually counter to what we wished to achieve. Want to look smaller, camoflauge differently than you have been. Trust me it works…from the woman with a whole lotta junk in the trunk.

Joanna: Thank you. I will feel comfortable at the wedding now :)

Jimmy: I can only guess what a ‘thrift’ shop is as I live in the UK. I hope it couldn’t be picked up for that price, as it cost me considerably more than that.

Lauren: Though I respect your opinion, I’m not trying to disguise my body, or make it look slimmer. It’s just that I prefer not to thrust my backside in peoples faces ;)

  20. LadyBananaNo Gravatar | 25 July 2009 at 20:30

    Nice top :)

I was in M&S today having a good rummage through all the sale stuff – everything I liked I couldn’t find in my size :(

LadyBanana: No, there were no tops that were any good for me, though the trousers were OK. Even though they were ‘Long’ We always have to chop the legs shorter anyway ;)

  22. JayNo Gravatar | 25 July 2009 at 22:20

There. I told you you might find something nice in Per Una, didn’t I? I love their stuff! Hmm. Might have to go in and see if they have any of those left! ;)

  23. beetleNo Gravatar | 26 July 2009 at 13:14

Jay: Yes, you did tell me. I didn’t think Per Una clothes would fit me. I was pleasantly surprised ;)

Very nice … do we get to see a photo of you modeling it?

  25. SwubirdNo Gravatar | 27 July 2009 at 14:47

    Babs:

That neckline reminds me of the jumpers I used to wear way back in the early seventies. Post hippie stuff. Now they’re making a comeback. Next will be bell bottoms.

    Very nice.

    Happy trails.

I’m not sure I “get” all the advice of wearing short tops… I have a bulgy tummy and a skinny butt, so I go for long tops. Unless one is 22- and a stick insect, I still think long is more flattering than short!

Thanks for your sympathetic comment. Too many friends have died recently. xxx

Drowsey!!!! Hello :O) It depends. If someone takes a nice photo of me you might, but I’m not very photogenic.

Swubird: You’re right, some of the 70’s clothes are being worn by young people again. Flared trousers have come back, but not the real bell bottoms yet.

Meleah: Thank you, it takes the stress away now, and I won’t be feeling uncomfortable :)

Black Cat: I have to agree with you. In my opinion, longer line clothes are much nicer if you don’t have a trim figure. Not that I stand in judgment of people who wear short tops. It’s just not for me :)
