Nothing new – music, music, music

Well I am still knee deep in working on Mo’s songs! It’s not just that I have to record from the cassettes to my Mac, but once I do there is even more work to be done on them all.

The thing about cassette tapes is that they have a short life span before the quality starts to suffer. They are notorious for poor quality. After a while sound drops in patches and the speed goes all over the place where the very thin tape stretches with time. Add to that, the fact that they were all originally recorded before the days of digital sound. It is a very time consuming job.

I have piles of tapes all in different spots. I put them in one pile once I have decided they have something I want to record on, then another pile that I have done and another pile for something else. The problem is I don’t remember what is where, and I certainly don’t remember why I put them where I did, so I have to go all through them again and again!

Pile one

Pile two

Pile three

I open each track in my recording software and go through it adjusting the sound every couple of seconds. Once that’s done I have to try to improve the sound quality, then get the overall volume adjusted. I then convert it to mp3 and hope that it is finished. The trouble is, I have gone over them all twice to try and make sure they are all roughly the same volume. You don’t want to be adjusting your sound all through listening to them.

I hope it’s all worth it in the end :O)

Just for a laugh!
This was a pic of Mo today :O)

Well, it’s a good job that you’re saving all that music. I always worry about this sort of thing. Photos is my main worry, I have them backed up all over the place! :0)

I though that Mo had legs like Georgie Best. They are lovely legs! Quite a shapely turn of the ankle! Thank you Babs for going to all that trouble, I for one can’t wait to get a copy of the finished article. I can imagine Mo when she’s 95 sitting in an old folks home, playing her CD at full blast and all the old ladies and gentlemen clapping and saying how lovely, and then she’ll give them her current rendition of Bless this house, and they’ll all cry into their hankies! All say Ahhh!

Ah I see Mo still has her shapely legs!

I cannot wait to recieve the songs via Jeanette, thank you Babs for doing them and taking so much trouble.
Stick a post it on the piles with a note to remind you. That is what I have to do now when I am sorting into piles.
