A most enjoyable night.

We went to a wedding reception tonight. The most understated wedding I have ever been to. I hasten to add, at this point, that it was very enjoyable and they put a lovely buffet on, with a nice variety of foods. They came round with trays of red and white wine also.

I did find it very strange that nobody dressed up at all. Both the bride and the groom’s mothers were in trousers and short sleeve tops like T-shirts. Neither of them had had their hair done. They looked like they had ‘just popped out’ in their everyday clothes. Not a hat in sight! In fact I’ve seen Margaret look more dressed up on a Sunday morning at church. It was a white wedding, with bridesmaids and a pageboy, and in a church too! I was concerned that I wasn’t dressed as nicely as I had wanted to. I needn’t have been. I certainly wasn’t out of place.

Actually we enjoyed ourselves very much and I can’t help but think that it was due to the unpretentious nature of the whole thing. There was quite a group from our church there and we were all up dancing, due to the relaxed atmosphere.

It is a second marriage for the bride and her daughter from her first marriage sung a song to them. I’m blowed if I can remember what it’s called but it’s in the charts I think and basically says – I will always be there for you and I will never let you down, etc., etc. It brought a tear to her new stepfathers eyes :O)

I don’t know the full story but (similar to Mo) she had to go to court and win custody of her daughter only recently, so I imagine the song was even more emotional for them than we know.

All in all, it was a lovely night, enjoyed by all.

Now a photo of my poor foot – just for sympathy :O)

So pleased you enjoyed the wedding, it sounded good,
You seemed to of enjoyed the dancing, the last wedding I went to (appart from mine and Brians) the mother of the two mothers wore trowsers and tops, that also was a church wedding, and the bride in white, it seems to be the thing just now.
Your poor foot looks sore see you are getting the sympathy bit ha ha.

Oh Babs, your poor, poor foot. It looks to unwell, and sore, and swollen, and perhaps a tad poisoned?
How on earth are you managing to walk and dance at weddings, with such an injury. I would say a little prayer for it, but I fear the God might say “who are you kidding” and throw me out!
Glad that you enjoyed the ‘do’ but that is strange about the mother of the bride. It may be comfortable and unpretentious, buyt what’s the matter with a little pretention at your daughter’s wedding. I do feel sad for the passing of ‘dressing up’ for special occasions. There doesn’t seem any such thing as ‘best clothes’ now, just clothes!

I so agree! Outi has won an award at work and must go to a posh London hotel for an award ceromony. She went out Saturday and bought an evening dress. It cost a lot of money. The trouble is that there are no functions anymore that she could ever wear it again – such a waste of money eh? – and sad. Dressing up is dressing down now days :O(

Well I, for one, was so relieved when Chris and Sarah said ‘casual’ clothes for their wedding! I hate dressing up, and have always hated it. I know I am not the norm, but if I had to go to a ‘do’ that asked for dressing up, then I wouldn’t go if I could help it:0(

The wedding seemed such a nice do, sometimes it is better just to be you perhaps. I hated donning my bit for Paul’s wedding, in my younger day with a smaller figure I would not have minded so much but I look like a sack of potatoes in anything I wear these days. No waist you see.
