Flying Felines!

posted by Babs on Wednesday, 3 October 2007

Well, I suppose it was inevitable that this would happen one day. I was on the phone to David and walking about as I do when on the phone. I went into the kitchen and saw that our top window was open (as it always is) but Sukie was balanced on the open window with her head hanging out. I shouted at Mo to come and get her down but as Mo went to get her she jumped out!

For those of you who don’t know, Our kitchen is an extension, and as we are on a hill, the back garden is far lower that the front. You can see the drop from the window in the photo.

Mo rushed out and Sukie came rushing in, running round in a panic and promptly disappeared! She didn’t show her face again for almost an hour, despite me searching and calling her name. What worried me was all the stuff she could have broken her fall on like the brick wall or the swing frame :O(

She is fine though – little minx :O)

I bet that was scary for her as well as you. It’s a long way to fall. Good jobs cats are light on their feet and have nine lives!!

I hope she is OK. Just as well that she is a lightweight! Oh dear! Don’t cats give you problems as they wend their innocent way through a normal (for them) day! We have just this minutes dealt with one of their innocent ways! I decided to hang a piece of kitchen equipment on the end of the sink unit. To do this, I had to close the kitchen/utility door which is seldom closed. To my horror I glanced at the floor behind the door and saw a mouse. Not your usual ‘waiting to be rescued’ mouse, but a dead one that was flat against the door. It must have been hiding there when someone opended the door and splat!! It had been there for ages, probably about a week! Arthur had a terrible time trying to prise and scrape it off the back of the door and hinge. Then it started to smell. It was indescribably horrible! Lots of Dettox, antibacterial cleanser and air freshner later, and it seems to have gone. As I said, don’t cats give you problems!

Oh Leeta! That is so gross! The poor little mouse:0( You should have blogged about it! I didn’t realise that doors could open flat enough against a wall to squash a mouse. It is bad enough that he was hiding there in terror from a cat. Oh dear, that has upset me.Was it a field mouse or a house mouse?

Oooh ha ha ha! I shouldn’t laugh…..but you squished it!!!! Poor ickle mousie, minding his own business and then SPLAT!

Babs, how often do we speak of the trauma caused by our pets? Gary is always worrying about Chicken who balances on the upstairs windowsill. At least silly Sukie is OK. :0)

Yes, mind you my first cat ‘Kitwinks’ flew out of the top floor window in a three story house in London, after a moth! Other than a small chunk out of the flesh on top of her head, she was fine. that was unbelievable. We thought we would find her all smashed up, but other than looking a bit dazed she was fine the vet said.

Do you remember my cat? (The white one I dyed red and blue) She jumped from the top bedroom window and like Sukie she came rushing in and went under the bed. It took us about four hours to get her to come out, when she did she was walking on three legs. Once I get back to Spain I shall blog the photo of her with her poor broken leg in plaster!!! and they say cats never break a leg!
