Ducks, ducks, everywhere ducks!
Mo and I went for a walk today. It was such a lovely, sunny and warm day. We started out at our favourite reservoir, then decided to drive to another lovely spot and have a cup of tea, while watching the ducks that trotted around waiting for scraps of food. We noticed a lonely little duck standing on a pedestal. We soon realized that he had a bad leg. Poor little ducky! Mo went to buy some duck food, and I managed to get up close enough to take some macro shots of it.
Just before we were leaving, Mo suggested that we go and look at a couple of white ducks, which were on the grass area. She threw a handful of duck food and before it had even hit the ground she was surrounded by dozens of ducks, all pecking around her feet. Look at that one gazing up at her!
While I was trying to catch this, feverishly moving, bunch of ducks with my camera, Mo threw some food over at my feet. There we were, standing in the middle of a sea of ducks, all feverishly pecking at our feet. As soon as the food ran out, they would peck at our legs, asking for more. It was hilarious.
Finally, we moved back to our car to leave. Mo threw the last of the food down for those ducks and the same thing happened. As soon as they realized there was no more food, they left without so much as a thank you, as you can see from this photo.
This was a whole new slant on feeding the ducks!

I’m surprised the duck let you get that close to take its picture. Beautiful colors. The first picture is really cute. I have to do a better job with my macro setting. Are you using a DSLR or a digital point and shoot?

Rattitude: Normally I would agree with you. I hate most things in large numbers, but these were sooo cute
Liza: That first duck eventually jumped down, and was very able to get around with the rest of them, we were glad to see.
Natural: They were all very tame ducks. I only use my point and shoot at the moment but I hope to get a DSLR for Christmas

Babs:
What a great picture of so many beautiful ducks. I haven’t seen ducks like that for over twenty years. There’s a park with a small man-made lake a few blocks from our house with lots of ducks, but would you believe that the last time we were there was in the mid-1980’s? Where does the time go?
Happy trails.

Whoa that’s a lot of ducks ! And they are so beautiful.
Perhaps they are all flocked in the UK ’cause they know it’s hunting season in Canada.
Nice shoes Babs.

Swubird: Oh Swubird, go a visit the ducks! You’ll enjoy it
Jaffer: Actually there were a lot more, but I couldn’t get them all in the photo. We don’t hunt duck in the UK, so they can all come over if they like
My shoes were very mucky by the time they finished pecking at, and standing on them!

What a fun time! We went to the park Saturday too and saw a bunch of ducks. There was an elderly couple who came to feed the ducks there too and the same thing happened. Eat and go!

Oh I love ducks. We have a few in our pond. We retired out to a lakeside community and we have ducks and geese when we can find them.
Sadly we lose many to predators. I lost all 6 pair of my geese last year and have not been able to find anymore anywhere.
But we do love the. And I truly enjoyed these wonderful pictures.:-)

Shinade: I am so sorry you lost your geese. It must be so sad. I never really knew how sweet ducks were until now. They were so gentle when biting our legs for more food. I took many more photos but couldn’t post them all

Jay: They were really lovely little things. We really laughed as they briskly walked away!
Gandalf & Grayson: They certainly do eat and run! They don’t have beans to teach them manners though.

I love that last shot! Like the food ran out at the buffet queue! We had two ducks visit our yard for about a month this summer. Fred and Ethyl, we named them. I don’t know why they came to only our yard. We had no water, only some bird seed. I missed them when they stopped flying in for visits. QUACK!
Great shots, Babs!

Ahhhhh mallards! My niece had three ducks, a drake mallard and two call ducks. Puddles the mallard is a real character. Has a waddle round the house, quacking as he goes!
You would love runner ducks too, they look like walking wine bottles!

Those are great shots of all those ducks. I used to always take my daughter to the park to feed the ducks. And every Spring we get at least three mallards that like to swim in our pool. I like seeing them in the backyard but my husband chases them away since he is in charge of the pool!

They are beautiful, but I would feel nervous about a huge mob of them pecking at me. I’d probably be the one running off.

Looks like more than one breed of duck there.
Also i looks like they are used to getting feed on a regular basis. Birds are quite clever actually and learn pretty quickly when they are going to get fed.
