This was an expensive trip out

posted by Babs on Wednesday, 5 November 2008

Mo went out today to buy a few bits an pieces and it turned out to be an expensive few bits and pieces.

She went to park the car in the parking bay and, as usual, some of the cars were badly parked.  People never give a thought for others. They park just where they want, with far too much space between the cars.

Mo drove to the end of the bay and parked.  In order to give the other driver room to open his/her door she had to park over the bay markings.  Now you have to realize that Mo’s car was the last in the bay and it was a dead end.  This was off road parking, so nobody would need to, or in fact could, drive past.

Look what she found when she got back to the car!

We know that she was parked outside the markings, but for goodness sakes!  Do you think this was really petty?  Someone who wanted to notch up another penalty charge for the day?

I have written to them to see if they will cancel the ticket, but I don’t hold out too much hope.

    Babs:

That’s just incredible. You’d think they would have their hands full with real violators, and leave the honest citizens alone. Petty. Really petty.

Who needs a day like that, eh?

    For all it’s worth…

    Happy trails.

Another ‘Job’s Worth’ That is such a petty thing to do to a disabled pensioner! Let’s hope that some one sees sense!

very petty. whenever i get a parking ticket (not often but i’ve had at least 5 in my lifetime), i write on the check: enjoy the doughnuts! that’s all we’re paying for their little coffee shop affairs!

    sorry. :(

I was scratching my head for a minute thinking I’d missed something, and I had. The parking ticket! LOL!

Not funny. I think sometimes the people that have the job of handing out tickets, especially in off-road car parks, are .. um .. not very bright. Therefore they operate strictly within the letter of the rule and can’t make a unilateral decision.

I hope you can get that charge dropped. It’s one of my pet hates, people parking badly and inconsiderately in car parks but sometimes (as you say) you have no alternative if others have done so and you need to park!

Still - I would support a system where if you use two spaces, you get charged exactly twice the fee. That way most people would think more carefully how they park, and it might stop the inconsiderate and thoughtless ones, while at the same time not penalising the rest of us too much for giving in to necessity.

Swubird: I have a feeling that the more they book, the bigger the pat on the back they get from the boss!

granny grimble: I will be pleasantly surprised if they do see sense. We’ll see.

Natural: I love that! ‘Enjoy the doughnuts’ ha ha!

Jay: I think you may be right about the ‘not very bright’. I like the idea of charging double for two spaces. That could work ;)

Well worth trying to appeal. I’ve written in on a couple of occasions and succeeded in having the ticket cancelled. Though it galls me, I’m entirely prepared to swallow the “you are a naughty schoolchild” letter they send at the time.

A: Oh yes, we had the same letter some years ago too! A real wrap on the knuckles, but they did cancel the ticket ;)

Yikes, expensive indeed. I’m sorry that this happened to you. You are right about folks not parking properly though. I don’t think some of them know how. Can drive, but can’t do the close up work.

See you are in my Google reader. I made the right choice. Much easier to follow all my favorites.

    Have a great day. :)

Oh my word this is a just a little extreme. The world is simply crazy anymore.

Murderers, thieves, abusers of all sorts get away with everything few seconds of everyday all over the world and you get this for trying to be polite.

I think your luck is much like mine.

I hope they reconsider and release you from the fine!!

Wow hubby is gone so I can visit again now!!

    It’s so nice…but, don’t tell him that…okay?:-)))

  11. beetleNo Gravatar | 5 November 2008 at 19:08

Comedy Plus: You may well be right about that, but so many people don’t give a second thought to any inconvenience they may cause others. I’m pleased that I’m in your Google reader ;)

Ivanhoe: We are patiently waiting to find out :)

Shinade: This is because the people who drop the tickets have their little bit of power, and it makes them feel important! I won’t tell hubby, honest ;)

What a jobsworth that must have been… totally ridiculous!

  13. KathyNo Gravatar | 5 November 2008 at 22:24

Yikes, that’s expensive! I agree with your remark to Swubird. I figure they have a quota to meet and writing up more tickets is like a game to see who can get the most. Shame. Sorry about that.

Well, in the highly unlikely event that you include a picture and explain the situation and it is reviewed by a human being with an organic brain and who breathes, this is a no-brainer and they should dismiss your ticket. Otherwise, next time, just park backwards and park 1 inch away from the next car and call it good.

Kathy: Hmmph! I also think that Jay has a point. ‘not very bright’ They can’t use their own initiative!

Margaret: Ha ha ha! Oh yes, to come back and find the driver standing scratching his or her head and wondering why ;)

    Duck: Yes That’s £50. It’s legal robbery isn’t it?

Ana: You’re right there Ana. I bet they have a special department just dealing with complaints about these tickets!

  19. JeffNo Gravatar | 6 November 2008 at 21:01

That ticket’s not valid anyway. They put 04/11/2008 as the date of contravention. Tell them they can’t fine you for something that happened on April 11th. Also tell them that “contravention” isn’t a real word.

Sounds to me like they were looking for ways to make money. Around the beginning and the end of the month? Very common around here. It makes you mistrust the authorities.

It is a normal way to park and to live cars in Italy. I’m always surprized when persons from other countries (specially my friends from Swiss) lose so much time to find a right parking. Why to complicate the life so much?
