What a lovely house!
We set off for Buckinghamshire, sandwiches in tow – just as well because we stopped at one of those ’services’ places for a drink. What service? You have to help yourself from a vending machines and as there didn’t appear to be any milk anywhere, we had to have a cup of hot chocolate each. £4.20! We could tell we had left Yorkshire!
When we arrived we were amazed to see what Bill had done to their house. It looked beautiful. We had long chats and then they took us out to a pub for a meal. The food was absolutely delicious. We kept expecting Gordon Ramsey to pop out. We have never has such a posh pub meal before. Bill has fresh sea bass and it came on a square cornered plate at least two foot long and about four inches wide. We had three courses. The pub had a lovely atmosphere and you didn’t feel out of place, like you would in a lot of posh restaurants.

The next day Bill took us to view the house he is building. It is a five bed-roomed house and every one has a shower/bathroom attached. He has thought of everything – every little extra anybody may want has been included. I will start at the front of the house…..
There are two entrances as there must be wheel chair access but I will enter from the main entrance. Each side of the hand crafted, over-sized, solid oak door is a little nook with external electric sockets. These are to allow Christmas trees (or the like) to be plugged in either side of the entrance. The first thing you notice is a small plate on the wall by the door. Not installed properly yet, but it is to control all the lighting in the house. You can do it from your car on a remote. It is all computerised so you can set any lights in any room at any level before entering the house.
Once inside you have a large, square entrance lobby with… at this point, to stop me repeating myself throughout, I will say that every part of the house is bespoke so all hand crafted. A beautiful oak curved, open staircase leading to a four sided balcony. The kitchen is enormous and all glass. The walls, the cupboard doors, everything is glass covered. The surfaces are granite. All the top quality extras you would expect in such a grand kitchen. All of the bedrooms are large, even the smallest children’s room. They all have either solid oak or cherry wood wardrobes fitted and all have a shower/bath room. All of the bathrooms have solid marble and very expensive tiles, wall hung toilets and power showers. He has even put very nice tile designs in some – very modern and made of small tile pieces that will match the marble.
The master bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe section and the bathroom is massive. As you enter there is a bath on the right, facing you will be a sink set in marble and a very large back-lit mirror section. To the left will be the toilet I imagine (not in yet) and then left again is a large square area, about 9′x9′ (at a guess) which houses a rain shower that is about 18″ in diameter and a second shower that is meant for women who don’t want to get their hair wet. The floor is angled so the water runs down into the outlet.
All the windows are deep set – about 15 – 18 inches and look lovely.
Another thing you can’t miss is that every room has a chrome bank of sockets that fulfil every eventuality. Every type of TV like Sky, Cable, Free-view etc., the computerised lighting plate and another which is for some sort of new audio that is coming soon. They all seem a bit high up to me but I imagine Bill knows exactly what he is doing :O)
At the top of the house there is a cinema room. A large square room with a wall that will have a ginormous plasma TV on it. This room has nothing in it yet so I can’t tell you anything more. There is also a room which houses the boilers and fuse boxes and a bank of about a dozen, or more TV/Video sockets. It blew my mind :O)
He has spent a million pounds on it but I would think he will get at least 3 million when he sells it.
We intend going back when it is finished because we just have to see it completed, carpeted and free of dust sheets etc. I will take a whole lot more photos then :O)
As there are so many photos I think it would be better to put an album on-line for you to browse through. They don’t do it justice as I don’t have a wide angle lens so in all cases I only got small sections. It will give you an idea of the size though.

Stumble it!

Babs it all sounds fantastic. I am glad it was you explaining it all rather than me, I could never have explained it the way you do! A fantastic bit of writing. I have looked at the album (well all three) the photos are great. I shall go back to view them with Dave and show him your blog which explains the photos.
Well done. Tinaxx

What an interesting blog! They have every reason to be very proud, don’t they? Such a beautiful house. I am not sure which of the two they are going to sell, but they are both lovely. What a clever brother and sister-in-law we have!

By the sound of it you had a great week-end, and in such a fab house. He is very clever to have built it himself and to such a high standard.
Well done on a very interesting blog.

What can one say except Wow! Double Wow!! Even triple Wow!!!
I should think it’s destined to be sold to a Pop star, Movie Actor, or Branson type wouldn’t you? Perhaps Macca will buy it as divorce settlement for his ex!
It was a great bit of writing Babs, I could see it clearly as I read it. Congrats!
