The pastime of a mature woman & Eye update
My peace was shattered by a loud explosion that was quickly followed by machine gun fire. I heard pins being flicked from hand grenades, and more explosions. Agonising screams and hurriedly shouted orders could be heard above the droning of tanks.
Was Mo watching a war movie? No she wasn’t. So what WAS all this noise?
Well you may be surprised to find out that Mo, at the ripe old age of 66 (going on 16) is knee deep in ‘The Call of Duty’. Yes, she has a PS2 and loves playing these games. She’s had all of the ‘Final Fantasy’ series and was very sad when they stopped making it.
So while I’m blogging and playing Bejeweled, Mo is on her PS2, making as much noise as her games do!
**note: Just as I was finishing off this post Mo suddenly said “Oohhhhh, I’ve finished my game. I beat it, and I was SO enjoying that. Oh well, I’ll have to try another one.” She promptly took out another war game and inserted it into her PS2!
I had a go at it once. I tried a few times and got killed in the opening sequence each time. It’s definitely not for me. I’ll take blogging and Bejeweled thank you.
You can guess what will be in Mo’s Christmas stocking this year!
Is there any one of you that know of any (more mature) female that has a PS2 or similar and plays these games?
EYE UPDATE
It has been decided that I won’t have a cataracts op. I am so relieved. Today I had laser treatment. They made a few holes in the back of my eyes to relieve the pressure and I go back next week for the results. Thank you all for your care and words of encouragement. It really helped me this last week!

Stumble it!

Mo’s too funny! I have not played a video game since the 80’s when Nintendo first came out. I played Super Mario until I could go through every level without losing a life, and The Legend of Zelda until I won. And then I was done with all of that.
Great news on your eyes!

Oh dear! I am soooo mature that I don’t even know what a PS2 is! If it’s a ’set em up and shoot ‘em down’ game, I would hate it. Like you Babs, I play Bejeweled and Jewel Quest. At the moment I’m hooked on Bubble Shooter as I can’t get past level 10 and it’s bugging me.

Ha! I love Mo.
My MIL and FIL both play video games, and they’re 81. As far as I know, they don’t play war games though, just Bubble Bauble, Tetris, and stuff like that. We found old Intellivision games for their PS2 (I think that’s right), and they love reliving the ’80s!
That is GREAT news about your eyes!

I’ll play Bejeweled with you. I can’t do those other games at all.
I’m happy about your eyes. Hoping this line of treatment will cure the problem.
Have a terrific day.

Good news about your eyes, and very funny about Call of Duty! I bet they didn’t have Mo in mind when they were developing the game.

I’ve never gotten into PS games or any other kind. Altho back in ‘89, Dave got me a Nintendo set, and we used to play Super Mario Brothers for hours. But I could never get past a certain level, so I lost interest.
Um . . . “They made a few holes in the back of my eyes . . . ”
You say that so casually! Yikes! I’m glad you don’t need an op. But . . . holes?

I wouldn’t say I’m a game addict, but I do likes me my Bejeweled. I loved playing a role game called Shadowman for the PC some years ago. After that, I liked one cute game for the XBox. Way, way back it was Mario Bros. for Nintendo, like everybody else. I can still hear the sounds that game made. Oh! And Pac Man before that, in the arcades we teens used to go to for a Friday night out. I also loved Centipede. Husband loves the shoot ‘em up games like Mo does. If I let him, he’d turn the sound up so loud I would think I was in a war zone. He has mercy on me.
Laughing at JD’s question about the holes. You did say that so casually. And you were worried about the cataracts?

Bill has Glaucoma and they laser shot almost 80 holes in his eye the last time so far his pressure is staying in the late teens which is great for him. Glad they relieved the pressure for you.
Everyone I know plays with their Wii, but it sounds like Mo has a blast.

Barb: It’s funny because Mo never played games or owned a console until recent years. In the 80’s she was too busy clubbing it
Granny Grimble: A PS2 is a Sony Play-station. It’s similar to a Wii but basically for video games. Mo’s into the war games at the moment. They are too hard for me. I play similar games to you
Ruth: Oh wow! 81 with a PS2! I’ll tell Mo there’s still plenty more years gaming for her then
Sandee: Idon’t know about war games. I’m finding Bejeweled too hard lately! My excuse is my eyes
Julia: Ha! I bet they didn’t have Mo in mind. Just shows that we NEVER grow old inside
JD: Hahahahaha! Well if you read my next post you will see why I threw the holes bit in so casually
Kathy: If I’m honest Mo mostly mutes her sound and plays music through the system. I tell her to put her sound on. It’s no fun playing a game with no sound is it? Think of all the Bejeweled noises. It’s half the fun
I agree that I made the ‘holes’ seem so casual but you will appreciate why I made light of it from my next post
Jen: It’d crack you up if you watched her playing them
Jude: Oh my! 80 holes?!!! That’s an awful lot. I’m amazed that his eye wall didn’t fall to pieces

That’s wonderful about your eyes. We all prayed for you
I can not say that I know any woman (or man for that matter) of ripe age that has PS2 and playes games on it. Go Mo!!!!

I am in my fifties and I have a PS2, and love playing all kinds of games on it. My favorites have always been the Final Fantasy ones too!! They were really getting great graphics for them too. More like a movie sometimes than a game.
I like action games, but not military ones, so I have not tried call of duty. I would rather shoot monsters and aliens and stuff….lol
My new favorite game is guitar hero!~ Yes, you heard it right!! Something about playing that guitar, and hitting the notes, it’s awesome!! I really sucked when I started, but as I practiced and got better…it is funny to watch me…I think I’m some big rock star!!! LOL Tell Mo to see if she can rent it first and try it….I just know she would like it, and you might too!! We love it, even though we can’t get into the tougher levels, it is fun where we are!!
I am so happy to hear about your eyes and no surgery. That must be a relief for you….and I will read your next post to see why you are so casual about it!!
Take care of you,
And tell Mo…..She Rocks!!!!

Ivanhoe: Thank you so much for your prayers. They definitely worked, and I’d appreciate some more for Wednesday when I see if what they did worked.
Kat: I read your comment to Mo and she said “A woman after my own heart” She’s spent many an evening killing monsters too! I used to love her playing FF because the music was lovely. As someone who plays guitar, maybe I would like Guitar Hero

Babs:
Incredible as it may seem in this modern age. I have never played a computer game. Shameful. My daughter and her husband both work for game companies, but I know nothing about what they do, or how they do it.
Glad to hear abut you eyes. You must feel relieved.
Happy trails.

Swubird: I have played little computer games ever since I got one in 1988. I’ve never played on a games console though.
I am very relieved, and thankful that they saved my sight! It was a close one.

Yikes! Holes in your eyes???? Ack! Does all the squishy stuff inside leak out???
Glad to hear you don’t need surgery though.
And Mo? You are too great! My dad loves to play Civilization. He plays for hours and hours. We buy him each one when they come out.
Oh yeah. He’s 82.

LadyBanana: Those games are not for me either. I prefer a more gentle game, or maybe it’s the games where I don’t get killed easily
Maureen: All that squishy stuff (some sort of eye fluid) is supposed to leak out the bottom, but mine didn’t and my eye filled with it!
Wow! 82! Civilization is a very in depth game isn’t it?
