Here we go again.
Having popped round to Sindie & Gary’s for a quick ‘cuppa’ the other day, the conversation got around to ……….. well I don’t know what really ……… all I know is that I suddenly heard Sindie, with great excitement, saying “Oh Gary will come around this weekend and knock your fire surround down for you, but you better grab him quick before he changes his mind”. I looked at Mo and Mo looked at me, Sindie looked at Gary and Gary looked at both Mo and I. I then heard someone…. was it Mo or was it Sindie?….. saying “OK that’s it settled then”. On reflection, I’m sure it was Sindie.
Sindie managed to get us a temporary TV cabinet from Freecycle so we had somewhere to put our ginormous TV and all the other gizmo’s while it is all being done.
Friday night Gary came round to give it the ‘once over’ and arranged to come back, with Len the next morning. Was it too late to change our mind? It felt like it.
Christmas is around the corner and we will be left with our wall in a terrible state and a large area of missing carpet. Well what the ….. Who visits us at Christmas anyway? And it will make our lounge much larger. So what if it takes us a long time (as in years) to finish the job? At least we can make a start. If we stop to think about it we will never have it done. With that thought it mind and Mo just a tad nervous we decided not to cancel it.
Saturday came and Mo went out for the sockets that Gary had asked her to get. Len and Gary arrived, threw the dust sheets over our sofa’s and began bashing with the hammer thing. In about ten minutes, and by the time Mo got back from the shop, it was all down and most of it out in the back garden for later use (I hope).
Here are a couple of photos of the events of the day. If you would like to see more just ask me for a link to the album.

Len is now coming to cement a large hole on the floor, that was left after removing the flagstones, and put the plaster board up ready for our new fire surround. Once that is done we will have to get the Artex renewed. I would love to get rid of it all but it’s far too big a job I’m afraid. Sindie will come and help us to build the new wooden surround once everything is ready. I will update the blog and more photos will be added to the album as we go along.
I almost forgot this bit…. On Sunday we were out best part of the day and had left poor Livvie asleep upstairs. She had come down for her litter tray and, of course, it was shut out the back with the other cats. I don’t know if you are aware, but never leave an unattended bag of cement around with cats. I think it smells like their litter. Anyway, we found a little wet patch inside the newly uncovered cement area on the floor! Thankfully it wasn’t on the carpet and will be cemented over :O)

Oooh how nice for you both, what fantastic brother in law and nephew in law, is that what Gary is? What ever you call him he is fantastical just like his father in law!
I have got to say I did love your fire place! Does that make me old fashioned? I always admired it when I visited :O( it’s all gone now.
Lovely blog and lovely photos. Seen the album too.

Yes it does a bit :O) It’s about 1970’s and very ‘In your face’ when you walk in the room.

How could anyone love THAT Tina? Shame on you!!!!
Babs blames me for all this now, but you watch her puff her chest out and take all the credit when it’s looking scrumptious!!! :0)

Hehehe! I just KNEW this had more to do with Sindie’s passion for all things knocked down!! She has just gone through the most horrendous upheaval in her own house, and already is looking for some more dirty work to do!! Sindie does rather get carried away when the word demolish is used!! Still, it is certainly going to look better without that awful fireplace Babs! And already is looking much more spacious:0)

I did already answer this blog, but I don’t know where it went. What a good start to the new year for you. Will you have to buy a new carpet now? I wish it were my fireplace being demolished. I’ve been without a fire for about eight years now! My fire is broken and they won’t fit a new one in the existing hearth because it’s brick and against regulations. I really miss it though. What a change it makes, much more roomy looking.

Unfortunately we will need a new carpet, but for now a large rug will cover up the missing bits :O)
