A red breast in our lounge!

posted by Babs on Wednesday, 25 November 2009

Well the feathered kind, of course!

I was at my computer and Mitzi (our cat) sidled up to me for some fussing.  When I’d finished stroking her I saw something out of the corner of my eye.  Mitzi perked up, eyes wide, and I knew that something was in the room.  Then it flew past me!  The cutest little robin.  I quickly shut Mitzi in the kitchen.

No, that isn’t poop running down the painting!

robinpreeningI am so glad that she lets birds go once she brings them home.  This little robin was having a lovely time in our lounge.  He even stopped to preen himself.

I opened both front and back windows wide yet he happily flew around for ages before finally flying out to freedom.  I was talking to him the whole time and he seemed to be listening.  He let me get within a few feet to capture the photo of him sitting on my printer paper.

I’ve never known a bird so relaxed while trapped inside a house, and we only found one little bit of poop!

Isn’t he the cutest little birdie?

Oh Babs what a beautiful posting and what an adorable little robin. I love robins as they are so friendly and fearless, sometimes to their detriment. The photos are wonderful and the last one is worthy of a Christmas card. You only need to add a bit of holly! That was an experience that you will probably never have again. Lucky you to have such a visitor.

He’s a cutie pie for sure. I’m glad he got to play in your lounge and then go back outside to meet up with his family and friends. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Have a terrific day Babs. Big hug. :)

Sweet! My bluebirds weren’t so relaxed!

What a cutie! Glad he was OK and got back outside. Gandalf use to catch way too many birdies. They don’t go outside anymore, and I’m sure that the entire Eastern Bluebird population is very grateful!

Granny Grimble: It was a lovely treat for me. I love robins, and he was so happy to be flying around inside :)

Chris: We don’t see too many of the red breasted robins, so to have one in our lounge was a real treat!

Sandee: That would be my story too ;)

Ruth: No, I remember your post about the bluebirds. Usually birds are very scared, but not this one.

V-V: I could have kissed him – well not really but I would have liked to hold him :)

Barb: Of all the cats we’ve had, Mitzi is a real hunter. Our other cats used to lay by the bird feeder lazily watching them flying about. We’ve had to stop feeding birds now, sadly.

Maureen: I only noticed once I had uploaded the photo that the bird was positioned just over that part of the painting :)

That’s incredible that he was so calm about being indoors!

Aww that’s so cute, although I’d probably panic and scare the poor thing!

He is content, isn’t he? How sweet of him to pose for you, too! Great pics, especially that one of him flying.

We get one in the conservatory from time to time and they’re usually very panicked, poor things.

    What a cute birdlet!

I love that you were able to get a photo of him/her posing on your paper.

However, birds terrify me, so no matter how cute, I would have run from the house, screaming.

    I’m glad you didn’t.

Lynne: I was really surprised by that, and it gave me a chance of getting some photos.

LadyBanana: Birds have never worried me. Maybe it;s because we had budgies when I was a child, and they always flew around the room.

Jay: I have no idea why he was so happy to have a nose around the lounge. Maybe it was the relief of being freed from the jaws of the cat!

JD: I could have happily let him perch on my hand, if only he would have ;)

    Babs:

This post is proof that life is never boring. Surprising things can always happen.

I won’t be blogging for a while because something is wrong with Blogger and I can’t get into the Edit window. It’s been four days now an they still haven’t corrected the problem. I don’t know if they ever will. If you hear anything useful, please let me know.

    Happy trails.

Fanatstic pics. We have a bird table in our back garden and there seems to be more Robins this year than the previous winter. Also their plummage seems redder. Is this the sign of a bad winter as I am sure I heard that somewhere before.
