Car Conversation #3
While we were at the eye hospital the other week, I had a 45 minute wait for some eye drops to take properly. We decided to go for a bite to eat and a cup of tea. I couldn’t eat mine so I decided to wrap it for the car journey home.
Once in the car and on our way home, I unpacked it, along with the butter and the little plastic knife that came with it. I carefully spread the butter and took a big bite.
Me: “Eww, this roll tastes a bit sweet!”
Mo: “That’s because it’s a fruit bun.”
Me: “Oh yes.”
Well I had just been traumatised at the eye hospital.

A fruit bun? Never heard of a fruit bun. Just saying. I’m guessing you made a awful face with that first bite.
Have a terrific day and weekend Babs. Big hug.

Something like when I’m expecting regular sauce on a pizza and it’s sweet and yucky never ordered another pizza from Pizza Hut.

Babs:
Very funny. Isn’t it funny how a little stress can make us lose our concentration?
Happy trails

I have no idea what a fruit bun is, but can you at least blame it on the eye drops? And now you’ve gone and made me hungry for a butter-slathered roll.

I’m glad I’m not alone in not knowing what a fruit bun is. But I can relate to expecting one thing and tasting something else. Kind of like expecting a minty flavor on your tooth brush and tasting shaving cream instead.

Sandee: I called it a fruit bun, but actually they are currant buns. Some have fruit peel in them also. Yes I made a face until Mo reminded me that it wasn’t a roll and butter.
Liudmila: Yes, it was just like that!
Jude: Yes, it’s just that your taste-buds are expecting one thing and they get another!
Swubird: Well that was my excuse, and I’m sticking to it
Barb: Oh once I remembered it was a bun and supposed to be sweet, I tucked in
Kathy: Actually we just call them buttered buns, but I think they are actually called ‘currant buns’ and I love them. It’s just that I got all discombobulated (I love that word) due to the stress of the occasion, and forgot that I bought a buttered BUN!

Ooooh I love buttered buns, I also love them toasted with all the melted butter soaking in to the crunchy surface. They are so delicious (and forbidden) that you could write a poem about them!

I hate biting into something and expecting it to taste a certain way . . . and then it tastes completely different. That happened with an English muffin. I thought I was eating a plain one, but it was sourdough. BLEARRGH!

Granny Grimble: I also love them toasted. In fact Mo is toasting some as I type this comment
JD: I wouldn’t mind but I KNEW I was buying a current bun and not a plain roll at the time! I just had a memory lapse when biting into it!

What a shocking discovery! When your mouth is all ready for one thing and you get something totally different that has a different texture! Ick! Hope that you got something tastier later on!

Cottage Girl: Well I did buy a sweet bun, I just forgot and was expecting to bite into a plain roll. Once I remembered it was meant to be sweet, I enjoyed it
