How to dangle your Splurge

Firstly, look what I got for Christmas!  A shiny new iPad 2! I’m thrilled! So is Mo, because she now has my Macbook Pro, which she’s been using constantly since Christmas.  I got Mo a CCTV system so she can see who comes to our door on the TV. That way we can be choosy about who we open the door to.

Now on to New Year’s Eve.

Every year we play Danglesplurgh (pronounced splurge) and the winner takes home this wonderful trophy.

The following year it is ceremoniously passed on to the new winner. It’s a fun and noisy game and I have to say, never a game goes by without some cheating going on.

This is Dangleslpurgh

The dangle it tied around you and hangs between your legs. You have to swing it back and forth and attempt to hit the golf ball to the finish line. It’s a LOT harder than you think. Especially if it catches the ball on the way back!

We play in pairs first, then each winner plays the semi finals and then comes the final. We always end up with three in the finals for some reason, but it adds to the fun.

Now for some cheating!

Some of you may remember the post ‘Painting by blackmail’. This is the very same person. She always cheats and we always fall about laughing over it.

On your marks!

Out of my WAY!

I think we had three re-starts for obstructing and shoving and she still didn’t win.

Mo and I have never managed to get in the finals. It may have something to do with being half the height of everyone else!

I wish all of my readers a peaceful and healthy 2012 – with plenty of laughter!

    “A shiny new iPad 2!”

Oh….how COOL, Babs! And I noticed your Mac desktop screen to the right of the photo. As you know, I just got a new computer (HP – which I love), however I plan on eventually getting a Mac. I LOVE MAC’S!!!

I’ve never heard of the game Danglesplurgh, but it looks like a BLAST! Kinda reminds me a bit of hockey, except using a string and what looks like a wooden moon.

“It’s a LOT harder than you think.”

    Yeah, it looks hard!

Happy New Year, Babs! And you too, Mo!

Looking forward to sharing 2012 with you!

    Cheers and X!

    • We must have been reading each others posts at the same time!

I have been a Mac girl for 24 years and would use nothing else. I did get a Windows PC once, as a spare, and spent so much money trying to keep it running that I paid for it 3 times over. I threw it out in disgust and never looked back 😉 Each to his own though eh?
Dangleslurgh is basically a made up game. The idea came from an internet site, using a banana and string with a ping pong ball. My BIL decided to make a quality game of it, out of wood and using golf balls to make it more difficult, which the moon shape also does. He named it Dangleslurgh – it’s a one off 🙂
A Happy New year to you too Ron!

  • Awwww! Happy New Year, Babs! And I am SO jealous of your iPad2.

    • You’ll get one, I’m sure 🙂 Now it just leaves the iPhone 5 when it comes out ha ha!

      • I still need to get the iPhone4s!

        • I was thinking of that, but decided to wait for the iPhone 5. It will be a bigger update 🙂

  • I can see where this would be a very fun game indeed.  I like the prize and the bragging rights too.  What a great way to ring in the new year.

May you and Mo have a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year.  🙂

    • Yes, it’s a lot of fun and is always the last game before the new year 🙂
We wish you a great new year too!

  • That sounds like a lot of fun. Even though I don’t even know how to pronounce that word 🙂
    Have a very happy & healthy 2012!!

    • It’s pronounced as plain old dangle-splurge.

I wish you all the best for 2012 too!

  • I like the game. I will definately be adding it to the game list. Did you have to make your own dangles?

    • Yes, it is completely home made. You can just use string and a banana though 😉

  • Jay

Ahaha!  That does look fun – did you invent it?  LOL!

    • Jay

By the way, am I the only one who doesn’t see your blog displayed properly??  I’m still seeing the side bar all across the text, and for me, it’s the same whether I view it in Firefox, Safari, or on my newsreader, ‘NetNewsWire’.  🙁

    • I think Sindie found the original idea online (using a banana and string) My BIL decided to make it into a proper game. It is such fun 🙂

  • What a naughty game !

I don’t know what’s going on, but lately when I try to visit your site, it comes up scrambled. Type on top of type and stuff like that. Any clues?

    Happy trails.

    • Hi Swubird! Have you updated your browser lately? I’m so sorry but it doesn’t flow correctly in the older browsers. All I can do is tell people to have the latest version of their browser.

  • Looks like Santa knew you and Mo had been very very good.  And that game looks like a winner!

    • Of course he did! We are always good (eh-hem) 😉

  • Oh, these ARE gifts! Now, Mo will wait for the visits and maybe invite persons, too. You have to be ready and cook many cakes! 🙂

I knew that Finns like to play home games, and thought it’s for the very low temperatures when they have to pass much time in their houses. Is UK so cold and dark in winter, too? :-)))

    • Mo does like her little gadgets 🙂

Yes, winter is very cold here usually, though not this year.

  • That looks like so much fun! Happy New Year ladies. Looks like you enjoyed yourselves immensely 🙂

  • Awesome about the iPad! I ADORE mine; it rarely leaves my reach. But that game? Ha! Sounds like a riot!!!

    • I’m busy looking for some nice apps for it now. Not much on it at the moment 🙂

  • OK, so the girl in the stripes, and the tutu, rocks, I don’t care how much she cheats, anybody who dresses like that.. pretty much already a winner.
I need to make myself one of those games, Haley and I could play for hours. Is the dangle wood or metal?

    • OK, the girl in the stripes and tutu is my (great) niece, and she did, in fact win that time 🙂 The dangle is made from wood. It depends how difficult (funny) you want it to be as to the shape you use. We find this shape nicely difficult 🙂
