Look what I won and Feedburner closing?

This couldn’t have come at a better time!

My prize

As you can tell from the date of my previous post, I haven’t been posting very often.  We’ve had such an awful Spring, Summer AND Autumn that Mo and I have been stuck indoors most of the time. We haven’t even been able to sit in our garden, except for a few days in early April.  It not only doesn’t create much blog material, but doing nothing, makes you want to do more ‘doing nothing’, until you end up doing a lot of doing nothing.  I’ve been popping by some of my favourite blogs, reading and commenting still, but that’s as far as it goes.

With the latest news that Feedburner is to be closed down by Google, I thought that was the last straw. I can do without another major blog problem, so was seriously contemplating giving up blogging…… until today.

I was stunned to open an email that told me I was a winner!

The lovely Linda (not the cat, though she is definitely lovely) of From Roses to Ranibows had a giveaway, of an Amazon Gift Card, in celebration of her three years of blogging and my name got pulled out.  I never win anything and it made me feel guilty.

Guilty because I was thinking of quitting.

Guilty because of some lovely comments I’ve had recently from people who read my blog.

Guilty because I had let the bad weather affect my life too much.

No more!

I will do my best to keep this blog updated as often as possible, with funny (or otherwise) posts. The Feedburner thing? I expect there will be a simple way around it when the time comes.

So, thank you Linda!

I was wondering why you weren’t blogging anymore. I just thought you were taking a break. Well I was wrong about that. I’m glad you’re back though. I’ve missed you.

Congratulations on your win. Way cool and it sure does make you feel good doesn’t it. Good for you.

Have a terrific day. Big hugs. 🙂

    • Thank you Sandee. I would miss all my blogging pals so much if I stopped blogging. I’m not ready for that yet 🙂

  • Ron

    Oh how wonderful, Babs!!!!

    Congrats on winning!!!!!!! Woot! Woot!

I’m like you, I never win anything. So when I do I’m like, “WHO, ME??????”

I so hear ya on the Feeburner issue because I might just have to go back to using my blog platform URL and solely Google reader. Although, Google has had so many glitches this past year, that I wonder if it too will close. I’ve been searching for various alternatives, but many of them you have to pay for and have certain limits to how many subscriptions you can have.

Oh well, hopefully before the 20th, we can brainstorm with our blogging friends and come up with a good alternative.

Have a great Monday, my friend!

    • Hi Ron. I am very suspicious of anything Google regarding the blogging platform. They have let things slide so much that I wonder if they will close Google reader down also. I read somewhere that they are not bothering to maintain it lately, so that may well be on the chopping block. I found a few, free alternatives to Feedburner and quite fancied one of them, but decided to wait and see how things pan out. I’m more concerned about finding a reader add-0n for Firefox like I use. I love mine.

  • YAY! Congrats on winning!! And no more talk of blog quitting! I won’t LET you leave us!!

  • Congratulations!!! Don’t give up the blog. Google is constantly changing things up. I guess it’s time to migrate the feed to wordpress. How soon till they shut it down?

    • I’m not sure that they’ve announced it officially yet, but there’s talk of about a month. They have moved their team away from it already, so It seems imminent.

      • Just found this site that will handle email subscriptions for free as an alternative to Feedburner.

        https://launchbit.wufoo.com/forms/want-to-switch-from-feedburner/

From what I’ve been reading, Feedburner is discontinuing email subscriptions on Oct 20. Who knows what they’ll do next. I lost out when they discontinued FriendConnect for wordpress blogs.

        • I suppose it depends why you blog. I blog for the contact and friendships made through comments. I fear that if people receive posts via email, that maybe they won’t take the extra step to visit the blog to comment. I don’t know. I was interested in this free alternative http://www.feedcat.net/ but I won’t rush into anything yet.

  • You are very welcome, Babs. I’m so glad you are going to continue blogging. It wouldn’t be the same without you!

    • Now I just have to get some good blog fodder 🙂

  • Congratulations Babs !
Now don’t do spending that on Booze ! Buy something nice for yourselves

    😉

  • Congratulations on winning and I’m so glad you’re not going to give up. I’d miss that little curly head of yours, not to mention reading your posts/comments with a British accent. 🙂

    • Oh, I’m glad you read them in a British accent. I read yours in French – As if 😉

  • Barb

    Congrats!!!

  • I was vaguely aware of the Feedburner thing and now I think I should probably be paying more attention to it.

    • I suppose we should. It does seem as though it’s going to happen fairly soon now.

  • Ivanhoe

Congrats! One of my fav online stores! Enjoy 🙂
I’m glad you are back. I miss your clever and witty and funny and family sories!
I think about quitting at least once a month 😉
    Hugs from Ohio,
    I.

    • I buy a lot from Amazon too, so shouldn’t have a problem spending it 🙂

  • Noooo you are not allowed to give up – you’d disappoint too many people!

I never win anything, but that could be because I rarely take part in any competitions! haha..

    • That’s a nice thought 🙂

All I did to win was comment on the blog posts. Nothing clever Lol.

  • I’m with you in regard to coming up with things. A lot of times, it’s not even the ideas for me — it’s getting past the writing block!

    And congrats on the win!

    • I definitely seem to be having problems with my blogging lately. I’m even struggling when commenting on other blogs!
