Photo Blogging Challenge – New

This months photo blogging challenge is – New

I dislike a lot of modern day comedy, for two main reasons. I don’t find humour that relies on smutty talk, funny or clever. It’s looking for easy laughs and shock from the audience. I also don’t like a lot of swearing, which they seem to do. Add to that, the fact that I have never found slapstick funny. Not since I was a child, in the days of Norman Wisdom, so I can’t, for the life of me, understand why I find Mrs Brown’s Boys so hilarious.

Mug

Mo’s f****** mug

Mo and I love it and we’re not alone. His live shows are fully booked out, the moment tickets go on sale. The show encompasses all three of my dislikes in comedy, but he carries it all off so well, that we can’t stop laughing. He writes and directs it all himself and the cast are all his family members.  My first photo is a new mug I bought for Mo, with his ‘made famous’ words on it. She loves it and uses it constantly.

This next photo was a complete surprise to me.  I was waiting for Mo to bring the car up and I noticed these new shoots popping up through the shingle. This is a very strange sight in January.

A few days later I saw this. A rose bud. Unfortunately, it was windy and I couldn’t get the silly thing to stay still long enough for a clear shot. I can’t believe that we are getting flowers popping up in January.

I feel the cold – I feel the cold a lot!  Mo, on the other hand, will have a cool air fan on all year round. I sit shivering, while Mo sits sweating. I suddenly found the answer to all of our misery. I bought myself a onesie and it works a treat. I no longer pester Mo to have the heating on. It keeps me just warm enough. Of course, being so short meant that I couldn’t get just any onesie. I found the site that makes them to measurements you give them. I was so pleased with it that I decided to get a second one, so I could have a change and it arrived last week. This is my new onesie.

My onesie

Why do I have to be so small?  I have to have a made to measure onesie and I have had problems buying shoes, for years now. I am only a size 4 (UK) and shoe makers assume that a size 4 means you have little children’s feet. I don’t have. In fact they are broader than most. I can’t buy shoes from a shoe shop. They won’t fit my feet and getting fed up with wearing the same old sloppy shoes for years, I searched online and found a site that specialise in broader fit shoes. In fact they start at size 3 (UK). Of course, you have to pay for that and my shoes are usually about £80. I can’t afford to buy shoes, just because I want to any more, but was getting really bored wearing the same shoes all the time. Even though they look as good as new. I know I have had them for years.

My birthday meant I had some cash to spend and would you believe they had a huge sale on. I got a pair of £82 shoes for £50. They arrived today and I am well pleased.  I’m afraid the kitten had to get her nose in the photo.

That’s my five for this month.

I agree with you. I really dislike modern comedy, but Mrs Brown’s Boys has me laughing until I cry and my sides are aching.
Have you tried Shoe Tailor for shoes? I think they go from UK sizes 2-10 and fittings from D to 3E on most and wider on some others up to something like 6E. I have wide feet and get most of mine from them and Fashion World which is all part of the same group. The only downside is you can’t try them on first, but they are easy to send back. They will send a paper measuring gauge if you request it.

    • What is it about Mrs Brown’s Boys? We often rewind bits, just to see it again.
I have used Shoe Taylor in the past, but their shoes don’t fit me any more. As the years tick by, my feet get worse. They blow up to twice their size in the summer months!

I don’t watch ANY so-called comedy sit-coms these days. They just don’t make good ones like MASH, and Cheers anymore. Congrats on seeing some signs of life in your area. We’re still in the freezing temps of the Polar Vortex. And you’re not short….you’re Fun Size!

    • I like ‘Fun size’ I think I’ll use that, in future 🙂

  • You’re absolutely right about modern comedy on TV. These days there isn’t much. But the British are quite creative I find and over the years I’ve collected several series such as The Prisoner and Life on Mars. Of course on the comedy front there’ve been many such as Monty Python, Yes Minister/Prime Minister, The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin and Fawlty Towers. Thanks for taking us through your January. It was fascinating. You don’t know what your missing over there without experiencing the so-called Polar Vortex we’re all going through, Babs.

    • I have a feeling it may come our way yet. Many parts of the UK are flooded, but it has all missed us, for a change 🙂

  • I agree with you on the humor although I’ve posted some rather nasty things on my blog. It does appear that the more raunchy one is the more funny. NOT!

I’m glad you are warm and you got a pair of shoes on sale too. Excellent.

We are having things bud here too. Very warm and dry winter here.

Have a fabulous day you two. ???

    • I don’t mind the odd ‘naughty’ joke, but they take it too far for me now days. I expect it’s a generational thing 🙂

  • Ron

I so agree with you, Babs! The comedy shows of today are not funny to me, which is why I don’t watch TV or even know what shows are on.

“so I can’t, for the life of me, understand why I findMrs Brown’s Boys so hilarious.”

OH. MY. GOD! I loooooooooooove Mrs. Brown’s Boys!!!! In fact, one of my UK blogging friends will post video clips on her blog each month, and I literally HOWL with laughter. It’s truly one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. And Mrs. Browns comedic timing is BRILLIANT!

Great photos! That second one is so beautiful!

Hey, I love your onesie. Great color! And I hear you about small, because I’m the same. My feet are small (7 1/2 or 8), but they’re wide, so it’s hard to find a fit. Also, finding pants is a challenge because of my waist size and inseam.

Sharp shoes you got there! And black is my favorite color. They also look very comfortable.

    Have a lovely weekend, Babs!

    X to you and Mo!

P.S. And please tell Mo I’m the same way. I have my ceiling fan on all year round because I’m always hot.

    • Mrs Brown’s Boys is the only TV series that we have bought every DVD of and we watch them over and over, without tiring of them. He’s a genius! I’m not surprised that you love it 🙂

      • Ron

        “He’s a genius!”

        He most certainly is, Babs!

  • Jay of The Depp Effect

Well, darn it – I knew I’d done something wrong! It’s supposed to be FIVE photos!! Oh well, better luck in February!

I like the look of your shoes – they look really comfy! – but not the onesie. I’m with Mo, because I’m the ‘hot one’ in this house. While OH is freezing half to death, I’m fanning myself!

    • I didn’t want to be the one to tell you it should have been five photos 😉

  • ReformingGeek

Hm….I must check out Mrs. Brown’s Boys.

It’s nice to see sprouts and buds. I think winter forgot you this year. It has certainly been fierce on this side of the Atlantic!

I have a small foot, too, but I can usually find something that fits at the stores. I like those new shoes. They look comfy.

    • You should check it out. It’s very funny.

Comfy is all I can wear now days, particularly as I wear jeans all the time 😉

  • I love each and everyone one of these photos with your descriptions. I read every single word, smiling all the way. The rocks and the grass… WOW!

I am so jealous of your onesie! I would not be able to use it during our typical winters, but these days when we got snow and record lows I would have LOVED to wear a onesie! PLEASE tell me it has feet in it too! That would be awesome!

The kitty nose MAKES the shot of the shoes. And those are COOL shoes… I have never seen anything like them – I love them!

    • I didn’t go for the feet, but I wear warm slippers with it. I like my new shoes too. They’re similar to a pair I had back in the swinging sixties 😉

  • Springtime in January? We had our thaw but nothing like that. Way to confuse nature. Nice choices for the month.

  • I agree with you about modern comedy. I don’t understand why everything has to be reduced to swearing and off-color humor to be funny. AND I, too have never found slapstick comedy funny.

Love your pics. I can’t believe that that a rose could be blooming. Here we are surrounded with ice thanks to an ice storm coming through last night. I can’t imagine a rose blooming anytime soon.

    • It certainly has been a very mild winter, for us, so far. I hope it doesn’t drastically change 🙂

  • Paul

Green grass in January is rare, especially if you get snow. Love the green in that shot.

    • Our grass is green all year round, but this is a leaf of our lily plant, shooting up, making it all the more unusual in January

  • I try not to go too dirty in my comedy. I don’t like a lot of cursing or too much sexual indigestion or stuff like that.

  • OMG. I totally LOVE Mo’s mug! That’s hilarious.

Wow! Flowers blooming in January! How is that even possible?

I’m also in love with your cozy onesie AND your new shoes!!!

    • When I saw that mug online, I just had to get it for her 🙂

My onesie is like being wrapped in a fleece blankie, all the time you have it on.

  • I don’t like it that comedy always seems to be so vulgar now days. I’m no prude and it doesn’t have to be totally PG, but when every other word is blank this and blank that. No thanks! However, that mug is great.

And the flowers blooming in January. We, too, get the occasional out-of-season blooms. But then our winters are usually mild with short cold stretches, and if we’re lucky some snow every so often.

    • I’ve noticed the swearwords they use are even getting worse now too. I wonder if there are any boundaries now days.

  • jo W

I love the onesie!!! My daughter got one as a gift and she loves it … I on the other hand, want a cold breeze surrounding me at all times. So I know your choice of a onesie was perfect! and i love your flowers … over here, the daff’s and rhubarb are sprouting and the snow drops are in full bloom! Enjoy your early blossoms!

    • We are having the most unusually mild winter, though they are getting a huge amount of rain in parts, causing major flooding. I can’t believe it’s missed us 🙂
