Photo Blogging Challenge – Red

This months photo blogging challenge is – Red

I had a new iPad Mini for Christmas. I’ve always gone for black, whenever I have bought an iPhone or iPad, along with black covers. This time I thought it was time for a change and I got myself a bright red cover. I rather like it.

iPadOur new kitten loves to play unusual games and in the next photo you will see her asleep in her bed. In front, is her red fleece blanket. She loves to play bull fighting with it. Her favourite toys at the moment are this blanket and a stick that we have to throw for her and drag it round and round for her to chase, until she falls down.

blanketWe decided to go out for some lunch and as I was waiting for Mo to get the car up, I realised that our car is red, so quickly took this next photo. Our red car.

carIt wouldn’t be right to not include one of our red post boxes, or a red phone box, so here you have an English phone box. Our red phone boxes are gradually disappearing, as the need for public telephones diminish.

phone boxFinally, we stopped for a cup of tea. Here is Mo and my sister having a giggle with some red carnations on the table.

I’ve always liked those red phone boxes! I wonder what will happen to them when no one ever uses public telephones anymore. Love the red car!

    • I’m not sure but I think you only see the red phone boxes in rural areas now. In London, they have all been replaced with grey, as far as I’m aware. I don’t know why they couldn’t keep them red, at least. I think they will always have some, for the odd emergency, where a mobile has gone dead, or been left at home.

  • That’s some awesome reds. I love your new cat. She’s awesome.

Have a fabulous day and weekend. Big hugs to you both. ???

    • Jenny is a real cutie, that’s for sure Hugs to you too πŸ™‚

Babs, great series of RED photos! I especially love the focus in that first one!

“She loves to play bull fighting with it.”

    OMG…how cute!!!!

And speaking of those red phone boxes, I’ve always thought they were the coolest-looking things. I’ve seen them in places like “United Kingdom in Epcot Center in Orlando, Florida and wondered if they were authentic.

And yes, our phone booths (which is what we call them here in the States) are slowly disappearing as well. You can hardly find a public phone anymore.

Have a lovely weekend, my friend!

    X to you and Mo!

    • Yes, they’re authentic, but becoming a rare sight now. They are replacing them with ugly, grey things. X to you too πŸ™‚

  • All excellent photos to showcase Red. My favorite for contrasting colors is the one with the kitty, and for cultural interest, I love the phone box (or booth here). Not something we see here very often anymore either. πŸ™

    • I remember the day when public phone boxes were all we had. There was one on every street corner πŸ™‚

  • Awwww! Babs! All of these photos are fabulous!! Well done, woman. Well done!

  • They are all excellent but oh my… That last one really warms my heart! It says so much in just a picture! Excellent! And the mailbox reminds me of Dr. Who!

    • Actually, the Dr Who box is the old Police box we used to have many years ago. In the days before walkie talkies and when the police relied on a whistle and the bell on their car – Oh boy!

  • ReformingGeek

I love it! The English countryside is beautiful. Your kitty is a adorable and that last shot is just fabulous!

    • Thank you. We do have some beautiful countryside in Yorkshire πŸ™‚

  • That red phone box is so neat. And the country side behind it is amazing…and no snow!

    • Would you believe, we’ve had no snow this year. It’s not too late though.

      • Lucky you. We’ve had more than enough snow and freezing temperatures. They say it’s been the coldest winter in twenty years.

  • We both used red cars, which is a smart choice I must say πŸ™‚ The phone booth shot is so great. I’d hate to see them disappear due to cell phones.

    • I think they will keep a few, but when they renew them, they won’t be these red boxes, unfortunately.

  • Great photos, as always. It’s sad that all your red phone booths are going away. They’re so much prettier than anything we ever had in the states. Fun photo of your sister and Mo.

    • We may only see them in museums in the future. I understand we have to change with the times, but why they can’t keep them red, I don’t know.

  • Yes, those are all great pictures. Red just pops out in a photo. The sleeping kitty is adorable! I love the expressions on Mo and your sister’s face. Joy is so apparent.

    • I liked that photo too. It captures them both so well.

  • I have the very same iPad cover and love it. We don’t have any phone boxes around my area of any colour let alone a red one, although I do notice more when out of London.

    • I think there was a lot of fuss, when they started to remove them all. Many people, especially the elderly, didn’t have mobile phones and it was considered important to have some remain for emergencies. I expect they will all go one day.

I enjoyed all your photos this month. Will chime in with another comment re: the phone boxes. We’ve discovered in NZ that Telecom NZ has made all their phone booths into WiFi hotspots for their mobile subscribers and if you connect to WiFi at a phone booth, you get up to 1GB/day for free. It’s been kind of interesting to see a small group of people standing around outside an empty phone box in every town we’ve visited!

    • Wifi hot spots seems like a good idea for those old phone boxes. I wonder if British telecom will eventually do that.

  • Paul Myers

Definitely the most interesting shot in this set is your phone box. The red really stands out against the green and browns. It’s really too bad that these things are disappearing. Where will Superman change when they all disappear?

    • Exactly! The truth is, I haven’t used a public phone box since I was a kid, but I still don’t want to see them disappear completely.

  • Kathy L

Great take on RED this month. I’m just joining in. Love your red telephone booth shot!

    • Thank you. Glad you joined. It’s a fun meme, with not too much pressure. Just the way I like it πŸ™‚

  • jo W

fabulous shots, i love the last one … such great smiles!!! it makes me happy!

  • Love the photos, Babs! And the phone booth is wonderful. It’s a shame these are disappearing from all over. It’s a piece of history soon to become extinct.

    • Yes, I’m afraid it will join a long list of things from times gone by. We can’t stand in the way of progress, I suppose.

Is that Leeta? How lovely to see her! πŸ™‚

I feel quite sad about all the red phone boxes disappearing. Actually, I felt sad about them changing to tin boxes, and now those are disappearing too – though it seems that some of the red boxes are being kept as curiosities in some places.

    • Yes, that’s Leeta. She’s doing well, considering she recently lost her husband.
I think they keep the old, red boxes in rural areas. There’s no much point in updating them, but they might just as well leave them where they are. I think some people do actually still use them.

  • Mike Davis

Great photos and stories to go with them, thanks for sharing.

  • Viveca Stone-Berry

I love red. It’s the color of my mother. It never suited me when I was young but as I age and grow to look more like her, it suits me too. I love to wear red berets and to dress up others – like my foster dogs – in them too!

A little known secret about me is that I wear red panties whenever I feel particularly scattered. Read somewhere years ago that red panties settled and energized the “Root Chakra”. Wonder if that is really true or just a marketing ploy. Cheers to all (in my best English accent.)

    • Hi Viveca. Welcome to my blog. I have always loved red, but for some reason I have only had a few red items of clothing, even though it has always suited me. I must admit it hasn’t included panties though πŸ˜‰

  • I love red, too. But I’m pretty sure that red phone box should be Dr. Who blue.

    • Our phone boxes have always been red. The Doctor Who box isn’t a phone box, but our (once upon a time) police box. A direct line to the police, for the police, to get backup in an emergency. Before the days of walkie talkies πŸ™‚

      • Oh, that’s right. I forgot. It’s been a while since a new Dr. Who episode aired.

  • It’s time. What is April’s photo color challenge. I want to start getting ready …

    • The prompt for end of March is ‘One’. We don’t know what April’s prompt is yet. That is usually given a few days into the month.
