Big heavy balls!

We went bowling tonight and had a great time. We formed four teams, three of six people and one of seven. Mo played badly tonight, which is strange as she was very good the last time we went, and got more than one strike! For those of you who haven’t been, a strike is when you knock all the pins down in the first of two hits.

I played right-handed tonight which was an improvement. The last time I went I had a bad elbow and had to throw the ball with my left hand. That was a laugh in it’self but I managed to knock some pins down anyway. This time I was very pleased to come third out of six. I hasten to add that I was only pipped, by two points, for second place. There’s life in the old girl yet :O)

There was a few backward balls though Ha ha ha! The first of these was from Mo which made us all chuckle, the second was from a young chap, the ball went flying backwards and we all had to stop it with out feet. You’ve guessed, the third was me :O) They are heavy and you can’t put your fingers in too far in case they get jammed in and you break your fingers when you throw it with force. Either that or you go flying down the ailse with the ball firmly attached and land amongst the pins at the end. Not a nice thought. So you hold it loosly and it flies off as you throw your arm back to take aim!

I thought about taking my camera but forgot. Probably just as well as people would say I put them off if they missed a strike!

It was a fun night and hope it’s not too long before we go again. I think it’s usually about £6 per head but David managed to get the price down to £3:50 per head! A bit of the old blarney worked wonders there :O)

Well mine beats all of yours ha ha! They missed off Frankenstien! I did a second one and got a complete different set from a different photo.
I don’t mind either of my first choices though :O) It does depend on the size and quality of the photo you enter. My first one was small so I got low percentages.

Second one…..

Now look at Mo’s!!!!!!

New game - you must all do one now. It’s fun waiting to see who they think you look like. I think I shall try a new photo again :O)

This is a very short blog just to show you that our daisy seems to be picking up finally :O)

If you look at the ground to the left you will see the remains of our lovely yellow daisy plant we bought. I hope it picks up again next year and didn’t die completely.

Tomorrow we are going ten pin bowling so hopefully it will make a more readable blog :O)

A most enjoyable night.

We went to a wedding reception tonight. The most understated wedding I have ever been to. I hasten to add, at this point, that it was very enjoyable and they put a lovely buffet on, with a nice variety of foods. They came round with trays of red and white wine also.

I did find it very strange that nobody dressed up at all. Both the bride and the groom’s mothers were in trousers and short sleeve tops like T-shirts. Neither of them had had their hair done. They looked like they had ‘just popped out’ in their everyday clothes. Not a hat in sight! In fact I’ve seen Margaret look more dressed up on a Sunday morning at church. It was a white wedding, with bridesmaids and a pageboy, and in a church too! I was concerned that I wasn’t dressed as nicely as I had wanted to. I needn’t have been. I certainly wasn’t out of place.

Actually we enjoyed ourselves very much and I can’t help but think that it was due to the unpretentious nature of the whole thing. There was quite a group from our church there and we were all up dancing, due to the relaxed atmosphere.

It is a second marriage for the bride and her daughter from her first marriage sung a song to them. I’m blowed if I can remember what it’s called but it’s in the charts I think and basically says - I will always be there for you and I will never let you down, etc., etc. It brought a tear to her new stepfathers eyes :O)

I don’t know the full story but (similar to Mo) she had to go to court and win custody of her daughter only recently, so I imagine the song was even more emotional for them than we know.

All in all, it was a lovely night, enjoyed by all.

Now a photo of my poor foot - just for sympathy :O)

Look what Mo made today, along with another batch of scones ;O)

The beef was cooked in the slow cooker so it was really tender. I don’t usually eat meat pies but this one was really scrummy.

Another photo to make you smile.

And one of Mitzi, just so you know we have other cats ha ha!

As I promised, a second blog :O)

All of you who have ever had cats know that there is nothing they like better than to creep up into your bed for a morning cuddle … well, normal cats that is. Sukie loves to creep up and leap on the bed and attack the duvet cover with a vengeance! She is totally ruining my lovely (and expensive) duvet cover. She gets her teeth into it and pulls all the threads as hard as she can. I try to shoo her off. Does that work? No! She clings on with all her sharp claws making it even worse! This morning I managed to get her off and she promptly shot up under the cover and ripped her claws down my foot! Now for those who don’t know, I react to cats scratches and it is extremely painful and itchy for ages, even the tiniest scratch, and this was not tiny I can tell you. It bled for a while and I refused to talk to her after that :O)

This doesn’t look bad but I assure you it was really painful for me :O(

SPIDER DOOR
For ages now I keep asking Mo for the clear Mastic to fill a very large hole where the gas pipe is. I forgot to do it when I went all round the brickwork with it. It was big enough for a spider army to get through! Every time I asked she said “I’ll get it tomorrow” You know what that means. Months have gone by and now is the time of year when we are likely to get visitors. I asked her today and she said the same. fed up with waiting, I went in search of it myself. I knew if I didn’t I would forget again. I finally found it and look :O) It will dry clear so wont look this bad but you can see how big the hole was!

Mo is at the hospital as I am writing this blog. If you remember she had all these tests for this strange “Neck/throat” problem. Well, thank goodness they never did find anything more serious than an enlarged thyroid causing it.

Well, they only discovered the thyroid problems because she was sent for an x-ray on her head to find out what this loud wooshing and pulsating noise was which kept her awake at nights. Thankfully, that turned out to be nothing more serious, even though it’s horrid, than a form of Tinitus, which is linked to your blood flow. You hear the blood rushing through your veins, along with the more normal symptoms. Well I am telling you all this as a lead up to the second part of her treatment, the first part being medication for the thyroid.

Today she has gone off for the first of many ‘Relaxation’ classes. Hopefully she will learn how to relax properly and put it into practice in her every day life.

On the 17th August she will trot off to another twelve week course of Tai Chi. This is part of her ‘Vestibular Therapy’ apparently. She has an hour of Tai Chi followed by 15 minutes with a doctor for assessment etc., each week. She is really looking forward to it all :O)

I do have to repeat what we have all said before. The hospitals, the treatment you get, and the warmth of the staff, are second to none here in South Yorkshire.

Just a little note. As I am typing this Sukie did the funniest thing. She continually talks to herself - quite loudly too. She just gave out a purr come squeal (as she does) and made a flying leap across the room. Have you ever seen a cat take a flying leap and land on their back legs? It looked sooo funny :O) I’m not talking to Sukie at the moment, but that’s for another blog ;O)

Well I will give you an update on Mo when she has been for her Tai Chi.

Our poor garden

I bet you didn’t believe us when we said our garden was badly waterlogged. Well look at thes photos of the conifers down the side of our garden …..

THE TOP HALF

THE BOTTOM

You can just see the last healthy conifer in the photo above.

In this photo you can see the poles Mo tried tying them up with in the wind and rain. You can clearly see next doors Greenhouse :O(

Whatever can we put there that can cope with so much wetness?
Most of the trees along the back fence are also dead and dying :O(

On a brighter note, Mo painted our decking ready for the winter.

And we bought a really big plant for a large pot we had, to brighten it up a bit down the bottom of our sodden garden. Mo put plenty of stones in the bottom for drainage so hopefully it will be OK. It will look beautiful when it’s in full bloom eh?

You can just see a small patch of the mud we have and that’s even after the hot sunny days we’ve had since the rain!

A lovely evening

As promised a more cheerful blog :O)

Tonight we went to a B.B.Q at Dave & Outi’s house. It was supposed to be at our house but our garden is still far too wet following all the rain we’ve had. It was a lovely sunny evening and although I don’t usually eat a lot at barbies, I had seconds. Everything there was home made, the burgers, kebabs, potato & Apple salad Mo’s rice and lots of other foods - all home prepared. I had a burger, potato salad and rice - twice!

Mo getting our pavlova

There was also several deserts, including home made trifle and home made pavlova with giant raspberries on it. Outi is a brilliant cook. The only problem was that after a second burger I could only fit a tiny portion of pavlova in ha ha!

Outi, the cook

Mo said she enjoyed her Fillaflong —- You could never guess what she meant in a million years! Wait for it …… she meant ….. Pavlova!

My photos are now clickable and larger :O)

I have just checked and you get a massive 1 Gig of space with PhotoBucket, so if you all store your photos there you can have them large. It would take a whole lot of photos to fill that amount of space :O)
