A lot of bull!

posted by Babs on Monday, 19 January 2009

These photos were taken on one of our walks over Christmas.  I was very nervous of these bulls, probably because of their horns, and the fact that a few stones and a bit of wire was all that separated them from me!  Anyway I couldn’t get close enough and manage to focus properly so the first few were a bit out of focus.  This one was the best of the bunch.  I have no idea what they are, and we’d never seen them before on our trips out.

EDIT: Having been pointed out to me the fact that you never see more than one or two bulls in a field, and on closer inspection, I realize that these are, in fact, cows not bulls.  I would still be nervous of their horns though ;O)

Below is the photo that Mo, being braver than I, took!  The facial markings were not as unusual on this one though.

Unless I miss my bet, those are probably steers and not bulls. Even a breeding operation will normally only have one or two bulls, and if they are feeding them to put steak on the table they are steers.

But, all of that aside, you got some great pictures. There are people here in the U.S. that make an entire career of photographing livestock. Nice job.

Tarheel Rambler: Of course, you’re right! I should have realized that you never see several bulls in a field – still I was nervous all the same :O)

Well they look like cows with horns to me. They appear to have a vital piece of their equipment missing if they are males!!

Oooh, look at those horns! They are a little scary and I am glad they are not really bulls. I do like the curly furs in the last shot. Great photos!
