Who’s having lunch at Buckingham Palace?

.

Yes, you read that right!

Buckingham.palace

Well, it’s not ME that’s having lunch at the Palace, but my nephew Chris.  Just so you know which nephew I’m talking about (I have a few) Chris is Sindie’s brother and Sandie’s son.  Sindie would have been so proud, as I’ve no doubt Sandie and hubby are.

He has been invited to have lunch with Prince Edward, some time in June.  Unfortunately protocol demands that this is as much as I can say, until the event has passed.

DofE

Chris’ company built ‘The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award’ website and also help with their digital/online marketing. The lunch is to say thanks for the help they have given over the years.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is a great scheme that gives young people the chance to fulfil their potential, and reach goals that they set for themselves.   It’s been a real success with many young people.

Below are some photos taken when Prince Andrew visited his company last year.

I’ve just realized.  That’s three generations of my family that have been involved  with royalty in some way.  My dad met the Queen when he was restoring some of her murals.  My brother has been to at least one garden party at the Palace, and now the third generation – Chris.

Why haven’t I been invited?  I think I’ll go eat worms!

It’s OK to be a bit proud isn’t it?

How exciting – you folks brushing your shoulders with Royalty. I am sure the worms are fed the best soil at the palace.
    Congratulations to Chris.

Of course it's okay to be proud! Congrats to Chris, I hope he really enjoys his day! :)

I can't wait – I'll make sure Babs has all the gossip and any photos I can get after the event! Just to think that I'll be treading in the steps of some of some incredible historic figures – pretty exciting stuff!

Um . . . “a bit proud”? I would be bursting at the seams!

That's so exciting, Babs! I can't wait to hear more. Did he have to practice using the proper soup spoon, etc? I'd be nervous, but what an experience!

Oh I like the idea of Royal worms!

  6. babs (beetle)No Gravatar | 14 May 2010 at 17:06

He is really excited about it :)

  7. babs (beetle)No Gravatar | 14 May 2010 at 17:07

I hope you can get some photos. I wonder if they allow it.

  8. babs (beetle)No Gravatar | 14 May 2010 at 17:11

Ha ha! I don't think he has his letter of 'protocol' yet, but I bet it includes all sorts of stuff, like the use of the Royal throne! Should he leave the seat up or down?

Also known as the Civil Service (or Public Service of Canada)

Oh, Babs. Proud?! I'd be BUSTING AT THE SEAMS! How wonderful for him. So like this makes me how many degrees of separation from royalty?

    (Laughing at Jaffer's comment!)

    Mmmm, worms……

  11. babs (beetle)No Gravatar | 15 May 2010 at 0:03

Ha ha ha! Oh Jaffer! :D

Kathy, you know me don't you? I am a Royal pain at times so that should be enough. I wonder where that saying comes from – 'A royal pain in the backside'.

That is so exciting! Congratulations to Chris. I'll be looking forward to the Royal scoop.

This is fantastic! I want to go! (Actually, I've been, but just to the outside to look see!) You should be very proud of Chris! Wonderful!

  15. babs (beetle)No Gravatar | 15 May 2010 at 23:51

I hope he can get some photos. That would be good.

  16. babs (beetle)No Gravatar | 15 May 2010 at 23:56

Yes, he's worked hard to get where he is. It's nice to see some rewards.

  17. KatherineNo Gravatar | 16 May 2010 at 4:51

That is amazing!!!! Maybe one day you can go… it has GOT to be in the cards! Can't wait to hear “after the fact” to see everything that happened!

  18. redheadrantingNo Gravatar | 16 May 2010 at 5:18

    You must be so proud!

If you want an invite, you should send her a piece of handcrafted furniture you've made.

  19. babs (beetle)No Gravatar | 16 May 2010 at 13:14

I think the only thing I'm likely to get now is the telegram if I reach 100 years old :)

  20. babs (beetle)No Gravatar | 16 May 2010 at 13:23

Ha haaah! I can just see the label. “Hand crafted by two old biddies, from bits of cheap would, in a kitchen in Yorkshire”

  21. comedyplusNo Gravatar | 17 May 2010 at 3:22

I would be proud. You should be too. So go ahead.

Have a terrific day. Big hug. :)

  22. LiudmilaNo Gravatar | 17 May 2010 at 11:56

Ohhh!!!! That would be sooooo beautiful!!! But I think it's tooo binding with the “hard” things I feel too complicated: dresses, shoes, special behaviour inside these dresses etc etc. (I prefere jeans and casual so as for me I wanted to be on the place of Chris but in an invisible form ;0))))

  23. babs (beetle)No Gravatar | 17 May 2010 at 13:26

You're so right about that. All that men have to do is put a suit and tie on and they're sorted – Not us women!

  24. babs (beetle)No Gravatar | 17 May 2010 at 13:35

I wonder what they eat for lunch. Can't wait to find out all about it.

  25. meleahrebeccahNo Gravatar | 17 May 2010 at 23:34

Oh My Goodness! That is TOTALLY SUPER COOL!!!!
    *said the mildly jealous girl*

  26. babs (beetle)No Gravatar | 18 May 2010 at 0:05

Yes it is isn't it? I'm glad it isn't me really. I would have NOTHING to wear. I don't think jeans and T shirt would be very acceptable :)

  27. meleahrebeccahNo Gravatar | 18 May 2010 at 0:41

I cant even imagine shopping for an event like that!
And, I would be terrified to speak AT ALL.

  28. babs (beetle)No Gravatar | 18 May 2010 at 0:44

So would I! It'd be the most quiet I had ever been!

  29. meleahrebeccahNo Gravatar | 18 May 2010 at 0:48

And all stiff and still! Like a statue!

  30. babs (beetle)No Gravatar | 18 May 2010 at 0:52

    Yes. Ha ha ha!

Maybe royalty have a way of making people relax when in their company. I bet they do :)

  31. meleahrebeccahNo Gravatar | 18 May 2010 at 1:38

    :)

  32. Marie CooperNo Gravatar | 23 May 2010 at 0:46

Of course you're proud! I'm proud that I read the blog of someone who has a nephew dining at the palace. lol The whole idea of royalty is such fun. I love documentaries about the Royal Family, especially glimpsing a human side of them. Chris will have some lovely stories. :)

  33. babs (beetle)No Gravatar | 23 May 2010 at 1:08

I expect it will be one of those memories that will stay with him always. It would me!

  34. Maureen KNo Gravatar | 24 May 2010 at 18:09

Wow! How exciting! The closest to the Royals I got is my uncle… he served as Prince Charles' body guard when he would visit Canada. He met him quite a few times and Charles gave him his cowboy hat that the Calgary Stampede awarded him with because it was too big for his head!

  35. babs (beetle)No Gravatar | 25 May 2010 at 12:44

Oh, wow! That's quite a thing. To say you protected Prince Charles, more than once is quite something. And to get a gift too!
